What's new

1.0.1

October 7, 2026

Find the people in your memory from Search Everything, a clean library from the first launch, and fixes across buying, setup, memory and updates.

Find people from anywhere. Search Everything (⌘K) now shows the people in your memory alongside passages from your meetings. Search by name, nickname, company or title, and open their profile in one step — even when two people share a name.

Your library, from the first launch. NoteOwl no longer shows sample meetings, people, commitments or calendar events. Anything you wrote on the old samples is kept.

Buying and activating

  • You can buy NoteOwl Pro during your trial.
  • An expired sign-in no longer blocks Buy or Activate this Mac.
  • Purchases complete on the right account, even if you close the window mid-checkout.
  • Activating this Mac recovers cleanly, with clearer messages when something needs your attention.

Your data

  • Delete All now removes everything, including audio from an interrupted meeting, and nothing can write back afterwards.
  • A meeting interrupted by a crash or quit is settled cleanly the next time you open NoteOwl, and rebuilding a transcript from its recording asks first.

Setup and offline use

  • Setup downloads every on-device AI model NoteOwl uses offline, and resumes an interrupted download.
  • Dictation errors now say what actually went wrong instead of blaming the microphone.
  • When a permission can't be granted from inside NoteOwl, it tells you how to fix it.

Memory

  • Two people mentioned together ("Daniel and Hannah will send it") are kept as two people, not merged into one.
  • "By Friday" and other deadlines are counted from the day of the meeting, not the day you review it.
  • A search result opens at the right passage, even when that screen is already open.
  • ⌘K opens Search Everything from every screen.
  • Each calendar event keeps its own prep notes.

Updates

  • Your update settings are kept, and an update never installs while NoteOwl is recording or working.

1.0.0

September 24, 2026

The first public release of NoteOwl — private meeting notes and memory that run entirely on your Mac.

Meetings

  • Capture any call from your microphone and the audio playing on your Mac. No bot joins, and it works with any call app. NoteOwl notices Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Webex, Discord, Slack huddles and Google Meet in the browser, and offers to take notes.
  • Speakers are separated automatically. Name a voice once and NoteOwl recognises it in later meetings.
  • Summaries and action items from 22 built-in templates, from stand-ups and sales calls to lectures and consultations, or from your own templates.
  • No length limit, and recording is crash-safe: audio goes to disk as you record, so a crash or a flat battery doesn't lose the meeting.
  • Import audio and video files to transcribe them the same way.

Memory

  • Chat and Recall: ask questions of everything you've recorded and get answers that cite the exact passage they came from. If nothing matches, NoteOwl tells you so instead of guessing.
  • People: a profile for everyone you talk to, covering what they told you, when you last met and what is open between you.
  • Commitments: what you owe and what you're owed, pulled out of conversations and tracked to a date.
  • Review: a daily brief of what's overdue, what's due today and what you captured recently.
  • Calendar prep: see your upcoming meetings from macOS Calendar with the attendees, your notes and your open commitments with them.

Dictation, free

  • Tap fn, speak, and tap fn again to stop. The words type live at your cursor in any app.
  • The tone adapts to the app: casual in chat, professional in email, identifiers kept intact in code editors.
  • Understands 34 languages, detected automatically — including switching between Hindi and English mid-sentence. See the full list.

Your data

  • Everything runs on your Mac with on-device AI models. Your recordings, transcripts and memory never leave it.
  • Export everything (transcripts, audio, summaries and memory) as plain files, or delete it all from Settings.
