How it works
How do you record your screen?
Press Start recording, choose your whole screen, a window or a tab in the browser’s list, and press Share. Talk as you go; press Stop recording here or Stop sharing in the browser’s bar, then play it back and download it.
- 1
Choose the sound
Leave “Record my microphone” on to talk over it, and “Include sound from the screen or tab” on for the tab’s own sound.
- 2
Pick what to share
Your browser lists screens, windows and tabs. Choose one, turn on its audio switch if you want its sound, and press Share.
- 3
Stop and save
Pause when you need to. Press Stop, watch the recording, and download it as a video file named with the date.
Can you screen record with sound?
Yes: your voice through the microphone in any browser that records the screen, and in Chrome and Edge the sound of a shared tab too, or on Windows the whole computer’s sound. Tick both and the recorder mixes them into one track.

Can NoteOwl record a meeting on your Mac?
Yes, the sound of it, which is what the notes need. NoteOwl records your microphone and your Mac’s audio during Zoom, Teams or Meet calls, with no bot joining, and writes the transcript, summary and action items on the Mac.
It doesn’t record the screen; use this page for that. For capturing the Mac’s own sound with Apple’s tools, see how to record internal audio on a Mac.
FAQ
Questions about recording your screen
Is this online screen recorder free, with no watermark?
Yes. NoteOwl’s recorder is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Each recording can run up to an hour, and you download exactly what was on screen.
What format does the screen recording download as?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound in Chrome, Edge and Safari, and WebM in browsers that can’t write MP4. The recorder tidies the file after you stop, without re-encoding, so it shows its length in players.
Why is there no sound in my screen recording?
The screen’s sound is only included when the browser shares it: in Chrome or Edge, share a tab and leave its audio switch on, or on Windows choose Entire screen with audio. For your voice, keep “Record my microphone” ticked and allow the microphone.
Can I record my screen on an iPhone or Android phone?
No. Phone browsers, Safari on an iPhone included, don’t let a web page record the screen, and this page tells you when yours can’t. Use the phone’s own screen recording instead: on an iPhone, it’s in Control Center.
Can I pause a screen recording?
Yes. Press Pause and the timer stops; press Resume and the recording carries on in the same video, with the pause left out.
Is my screen recording uploaded?
No. The video is recorded in your browser and kept in the page’s memory until you download it. Nothing is sent to NoteOwl or anyone else, and closing the page deletes it.
