What does NoteOwl’s Korean transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 95.9% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:43

A short work call between 지은 and 민준. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. 사전 예약을 받을까요? 아니면 현전 입장으로 할까요?

In English: Should we take advance reservations? Or let people walk in?

  2. 주말에는 줄이 길어질테니 사전 예약을 받는 게 좋겠어요.

In English: The lines will get long on weekends, so taking advance reservations would be better.

  3. 좋아요. 그럼 주말만 사전 예약제로 하고

In English: Okay. Then let’s take reservations only on weekends,

  4. 평일은 자유 입장으로 하죠. 알겠습니다.

In English: and have free entry on weekdays. Got it.

  5. 목요일까지 예약화면 만들어서 주소 보내드릴게요. 감사합니다.

In English: I’ll build the reservation screen and send you the address by Thursday. Thank you.

Lines copied from NoteOwl’s transcript exactly as it wrote them, mistakes included. The English beside each line is our translation for readers, not NoteOwl output.

How does NoteOwl write Korean?

In Hangul, with spaces between words, full stops and question marks. Its spacing was sometimes tighter than the standard: 길어질테니 for 길어질 테니, 예약화면 for 예약 화면 and 삼백명 for 삼백 명. Numbers came out as Korean number words, 삼백명, not 300명.

Polite endings came through as spoken, from 좋겠어요 to 알겠습니다 and 수고하셨습니다, so the transcript keeps the register of the conversation. Particles such as 을, 은 and 에는 stayed attached to their nouns, as Korean writes them.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Korean sample?

Mostly look-alike sounds: 95.9% of characters matched. 많네요 (that’s a lot) became 맞네요 (that’s right), 방문객 (visitors) became 방문계획 (visit plan), 기념품 (souvenirs) became 김영품, and 민준 씨 became 민준시. The closing 수고하세요 came out as 수가하세요.

Two more: 시작 날짜 (start date) came out as 시장날짜 (market date), and the question 금요일이죠? ended with a full stop instead of a question mark. When you check a Korean transcript, read short replies and names first.

How do vocabulary rules work with Korean particles?

On Pro, a rule such as 김영품 → 기념품 replaces what NoteOwl writes. It only matches a whole word, and in Korean a particle belongs to the word it follows, so that rule fixes 김영품 but not 김영품을.

Write one rule per form you see, particle included: 김영품을, 김영품은 and so on. In the sample, 김영품 stood before a space, so the plain rule would have caught it.

Is there a setting for Korean?

No. Korean is recognised from the sound alone. The one place to look is Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language: it offers English, Hindi, Spanish, French and German to pin, but not Korean, so Auto-detect is the right choice.

Macs set to English start that menu on English. Leave it there and dictation and meetings are decoded with a Latin-letter vocabulary, in which a word like 안녕하세요 does not exist. Files you import are unaffected: their language is always worked out automatically.

Where is Korean transcription useful?

Korean is the working language of offices in Seoul, Busan and Incheon, and is spoken by about 80 million people. People record team meetings, client calls, interviews and retail or event planning such as the two-week pop-up store in the sample.

Is Korean speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Korean into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Korean transcription

Is Korean dictation free?

Yes. Korean dictation costs nothing and has no daily limit: tap fn, say it in Korean, tap fn once more, and the Hangul appears wherever you are typing. Voice notes are free too. Pro, a single $79 for one Mac, opens meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory, after a 7-day trial that needs no card.

Does Korean transcription work offline?

Yes. Korean speech is turned into text by models stored on your Mac. Before relying on it offline, dictate once on Auto-detect and import one file with a connection, because each can fetch a model part not used before. After that, no internet is needed.

Does NoteOwl detect Korean automatically?

Yes for anything imported. Dictation and meetings detect Korean too, unless the Spoken language menu has been left on English, in which case no Hangul can appear.

Can I import a Korean recording?

Yes, on Pro or the trial. A voice memo from your phone, a call saved as mp4, or any m4a, mp3 or wav: click Import Recording in Transcripts or drag it in, and NoteOwl writes the Korean transcript locally, with each speaker separated.

Does it work for meetings in Korean?

Yes, on Pro. Nothing joins the call: NoteOwl listens through your Mac’s microphone and its sound output. Once you hang up, the Korean conversation is laid out speaker by speaker, followed by a summary and the action items.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Korean?

95.9% of characters matched on this page’s sample, not counting punctuation or spaces. The misses were look-alike sounds in names and short replies. Try your own recordings during the trial.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
