A short work call between Sanne and Bram. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Hoy Bram, even over de beurs volgende maand. Hoe staat het met de stand? Goed, de plek is geboekt twaalf, vierkante meter vlak bij de

In English: Hi Bram, quickly about the trade fair next month. How’s the stand coming along? Good. The space is booked: twelve square metres, right by the

  2. ingang, hebben we al besloten of het grote scherm meenemen? Nog niet

In English: entrance. Have we decided yet whether we’re bringing the big screen? Not yet.

  3. het heuren Cosso's zo'n vierhonderd euro extra, dan doen we het niet. Onze folders en een paar productmonsters zijn genoeg

In English: Renting it costs about four hundred euros extra. Then we won’t. Our brochures and a few product samples are enough.

  4. eens, dan hebben we ook meer ruimte om met bezoekers te praten.

In English: Agreed. That also gives us more room to talk with visitors.

  5. Kun jij uiterlijk woensdag, de folders bij de drukker bestellen? Ja, dat regel ik. Ik stuur je morgen de drukproef nog even ter controle. Top, dan maak ik

In English: Can you order the brochures from the printer by Wednesday at the latest? Yes, I’ll sort that out. I’ll send you the proof tomorrow so you can check it. Great, then I’ll make

  6. het rooster voor wie wanneer op de stand staat. Prima, dan spreken we elkaar vrijdag weer. Fijne dag nog

In English: the rota for who is on the stand when. Fine, then we’ll talk again on Friday. Have a nice day!

How does NoteOwl write Dutch?

As standard written Dutch, with compounds kept whole: productmonsters, drukproef, and zo’n with its apostrophe. Numbers came out in words, as they were spoken: twaalf vierkante meter and vierhonderd euro. Most sentences kept their full stops and question marks.

One phrase went wrong. “Het huren kost zo’n vierhonderd euro” came out as “het heuren Cosso’s zo’n vierhonderd euro”: quick words ran together into something that isn’t Dutch. NoteOwl also wrote the greeting Hoi as Hoy.

A few short words went missing: a “Mooi”, a “Precies”, and the we in “of we het grote scherm meenemen”. Stray commas turned up too, as in “twaalf, vierkante meter” and “uiterlijk woensdag, de folders”.

How do you dictate in Dutch on a Mac?

Tap fn in any app, speak Dutch and tap fn again: the words type at your cursor. In Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language, choose Auto-detect, because Dutch isn’t one of the languages that menu can pin.

The setting starts on your Mac’s own language, so on a Mac set to English, switch it to Auto-detect before you dictate or record a meeting in Dutch. Recordings you import are always detected automatically, the way NoteOwl recognised the sample above.

Where is Dutch spoken, and what do people record in it?

Dutch is the first language of about 25 million people, in the Netherlands, in Flanders in Belgium, and in Suriname. NoteOwl lists it as one language, without regional variants; the sample is Dutch from the Netherlands.

At work that means the overleg and its notulen, client calls, interviews, and trade fairs like the one in the sample, where a team decides what to bring to a twelve-square-metre stand.

Accuracy varies with accent. If you speak Flemish, try NoteOwl on a short recording of your own before you rely on it for a long meeting.

How do you get the best Dutch transcripts?

Read it once before you send it on, and teach NoteOwl the names it doesn’t know. In the sample every decision came through; the slips were one garbled phrase, a few dropped short words and stray commas.

For surnames, company names and product names, add a Vocabulary rule, part of NoteOwl Pro: type the word as NoteOwl writes it, then as it should be spelled, and every transcript after that uses your spelling. When you dictate, the free Polish button that appears as you stop tidies stray commas like these.

Is Dutch speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Dutch into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.
