What does NoteOwl’s Hindi transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 99.6% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:46

A short work call between नेहा and रोहन. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. तो यही तय रहा हलवाई से बात कौन करेगा, मैं कर लूंगा। गुरुवार तक खाने की सूची और दाम दोनों आपको भेज दूंगा। बहुत बढ़िया मैं

In English: …then that’s decided. Who will talk to the caterer? I will. I’ll send you both the menu and the prices by Thursday. Excellent, I

  2. तब तक कार्यक्रम की रूपरेखा और पुरस्कार वाला हिस्सा तैयार कर लेती हूं

In English: will get the programme outline and the awards segment ready by then.

  3. और समारोह की तारीख वही है ना बीस दिसंबर

In English: And the date of the function is still the same, right, the twentieth of December?

  4. हाँ, वही है गुरुवार को बात करते हैं

In English: Yes, it’s the same. Let’s talk on Thursday.

  5. शुक्रिया रोहन जी शुक्रिया फिर मिलते हैं

In English: Thanks, Rohan. Sure, thank you, see you then.

How does NoteOwl write Hindi?

In Devanagari, ending sentences with the danda (।) and separating clauses with commas. Numbers in the sample stayed as words: एक सौ बीस लोगों (120 people) and बीस दिसंबर (20 December).

The sample script was written in formal Hindi, with words such as सभागार (hall), पुष्टि (confirmation), रूपरेखा (outline) and पुरस्कार (awards), and NoteOwl spelled each of them correctly.

Does NoteOwl keep the nukta and chandrabindu?

Mostly not, which matches how many people type Hindi. It wrote जरूर, इंतजाम, खुद and तारीख without the nukta, and लूंगा, दूंगा and हूं with an anusvara in place of the chandrabindu. It kept बढ़िया and हाँ intact.

If your organisation’s style keeps ज़ and ख़, fix them when you edit, or add Pro vocabulary rules for the words you use most, such as तारीख → तारीख़. Rules match whole Devanagari words, so a rule never changes letters inside a longer word.

Can I set NoteOwl to Hindi?

Yes. Hindi is one of the languages you can pin in Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language, alongside Auto-detect, English, Spanish, French and German. On a Mac whose language is Hindi, the menu starts on Hindi.

Pin Hindi if Hindi is what you mostly dictate and meet in, or if your dictation ever comes out in the wrong script, which is what the setting is for. If the menu shows English, NoteOwl transcribes for the Latin alphabet only and can’t write Devanagari. Imported recordings ignore the menu and are always detected automatically.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Hindi sample?

Almost nothing: 99.6% of characters matched. The first बढ़िया came out as बरिया (the second was right), and Rohan’s goodbye, जी, शुक्रिया, ran into Neha’s thanks: शुक्रिया रोहन जी शुक्रिया.

A few sentence breaks were missed, so a question and its answer can share a line, as in हलवाई से बात कौन करेगा, मैं कर लूंगा. It also wrote ना where the script had न, in वही है ना.

Where is Hindi transcription useful?

Hindi is an official language of India’s government and the everyday language of offices across north and central India, from Delhi and Lucknow to Jaipur and Bhopal. Typical recordings are team meetings, client calls, interviews and event planning like the annual function in the sample.

Is Hindi speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Hindi into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Hindi transcription

Is Hindi dictation free?

Yes, with no limit. Tap fn in any app, speak Hindi, tap fn again, and the Devanagari types at your cursor; voice notes are free too. Pro, $79 once for one Mac, adds meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory, and the 7-day trial in the app needs no card.

Does Hindi transcription work offline?

Yes. Hindi is transcribed on the Mac itself, and once the models are downloaded no connection is needed. Your first import, and your first dictation on Hindi or Auto-detect, may fetch one more part of the model, so do those online.

Does NoteOwl detect Hindi automatically?

Yes. Imports are always detected automatically, and dictation and meetings are too on Auto-detect. If you mostly speak Hindi, pinning Hindi in Settings → Auto-Context is the surer choice.

Can I import a recording in Hindi?

Yes, with Pro or during the trial. Use Import Recording in Transcripts or drop an m4a, mp3, wav or mp4 file in. NoteOwl recognises Hindi, writes the transcript in Devanagari on your Mac and labels each speaker.

Does NoteOwl work for meetings in Hindi?

Yes, with Pro. It records your microphone and the call audio on your Mac, so no bot has to join. When the meeting ends you have the Hindi transcript by speaker, a summary and action items.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Hindi?

On this page’s sample, 99.6% of characters matched, leaving out punctuation and spaces. Try it on your own meetings during the trial.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
