What does NoteOwl’s Spanish transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 97.4% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

A short work call between Lucía and Javier. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Javier, ¿cómo vamos con la apertura de la tienda?

In English: Javier, how are we doing with the shop opening?

  2. Bastante bien. Ya han llegado las bicis, pero todavía faltan los cascos y las luces.

In English: Pretty well. The bikes have arrived, but the helmets and lights are still missing.

  3. Y llegarán antes del sábado. El proveedor dice que el jueves, pero no me fío mucho.

In English: And will they arrive before Saturday? The supplier says Thursday, but I don’t really trust that.

  4. Vale, pues abrimos el sábado igualmente, aunque falte algo de material. No quiero retrasarlo otra vez. De acuerdo. Y para animar la

In English: Okay, then we open on Saturday anyway, even if some stock is missing. I don’t want to delay it again. Agreed. And to liven up the

How does NoteOwl write Spanish?

With its accents and its opening question marks. In the sample, NoteOwl wrote cómo, todavía, llegarán, sábado and mañana with their accents, and opened questions with ¿, as in “¿cómo vamos con la apertura de la tienda?”.

Not every question got its marks: “¿Y llegarán antes del sábado?” and “¿Te encargas tú…?” came out as statements ending in a full stop. Everyday Spanish from Spain, such as vale, bicis and no me fío mucho, was written exactly as it was said, not tidied into something more formal.

Two words near the end slipped: “te escribo en cuanto” came out as “te scribo en quanto”, the kind of slip a Spanish reader spots at once.

How do you dictate in Spanish on a Mac?

Tap fn in any app, speak Spanish and tap fn again: the words type at your cursor. Spanish is one of the languages you can pin in Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language, so NoteOwl doesn’t have to guess.

The setting starts on your Mac’s own language. On a Mac set to English, choose Spanish, or Auto-detect to let NoteOwl recognise the language each time. Meetings you record use the same setting; recordings you import are always detected automatically, as the sample above was.

Which kinds of Spanish does NoteOwl understand?

NoteOwl lists Spanish with two variants: Spain and the United States. The sample was written and read as Spanish from Spain, and NoteOwl detected the language by itself, with nothing chosen in advance.

Spanish is the first language of roughly 500 million people, official in Spain and most of Latin America and spoken by tens of millions in the United States. At work that means the reunión and its acta, sales and support calls, interviews and classes.

Accuracy varies with accent. The sample doesn’t show how NoteOwl handles a Mexican, Argentine or Caribbean accent, so if that is how you speak, try it on a short recording of your own first.

How do you get the best Spanish transcripts?

Check figures and questions, and teach NoteOwl the names it doesn’t know. In the sample, “diez por ciento” came out as the digits 10 but without its percent sign, and two questions lost their ¿ and ?.

A read-through before you send a transcript on catches both. For surnames, street names and brands, add a Vocabulary rule, part of NoteOwl Pro: type the word the way NoteOwl writes it, then the way it should be spelled, and every transcript after that uses your spelling.

Is Spanish speech to text free in NoteOwl?
