How it works
How do you transcribe a Loom video?
Open the video from your Loom Library, choose Download from the menu above it, and Loom saves an MP4. Drop the MP4 on the converter: it takes the sound only and writes the transcript in timed paragraphs.
- 1
Open it from your Library
Find the Loom in your Library and open the menu above the video.
- 2
Choose Download
Loom saves an MP4. If it says “Polishing pixels”, the file needs a few more minutes.
- 3
Drop the MP4 here
Up to 30 minutes of each video are transcribed, with a time on every paragraph.
Doesn’t Loom already transcribe videos?
Yes, on every plan: each Loom has a Transcript panel beside the player, with timestamps, copy and search. Come here for what that doesn’t cover: a Loom MP4 someone sent you, a video without a transcript, or text you want as a Word, text or subtitle file.
Loom’s own fix for a video that has no transcript is to download it and upload it again. Dropping the downloaded MP4 here gets you the text straight away instead.
Who can download a Loom video?
It depends on your plan and role. Nobody can download on the Starter plan; on paid plans, admins and creators can, and viewers can too when the video allows downloads. For a Loom meeting recording, only the meeting’s organizer can download.

What does a downloaded Loom leave out?
Everything that lives in Loom’s player rather than the video. Your trims are kept, but captions, chapters, calls to action, and filler-word and silence removal aren’t in the MP4, so a transcript made from it follows the recording as it was made.
Can you get Loom captions as an SRT file?
From Loom, on Business, Business+ AI and Enterprise: open the menu above the video and choose Download captions. On other plans, or for a Loom someone sent you as an MP4, drop the file here and download SRT or VTT subtitles with the transcript.
Need subtitles more than a transcript? The SRT subtitle generator leads with the subtitle file.
Recording walkthroughs and calls on a Mac?
NoteOwl imports MP4 recordings, a downloaded Loom included, and transcribes them on your Mac, unlimited, with the speakers labelled. For live calls it records the call itself from your Mac’s audio, with no bot joining.
FAQ
Questions about transcribing Loom videos
Is this Loom transcription free?
Yes. Transcribe 3 Loom videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account. Copying the text and the Word, text and subtitle downloads are all included.
Can I transcribe a Loom from its share link?
No. The converter needs the video file, not the link. Download the Loom as an MP4 first, or ask its creator to send you the file if downloads are off for viewers.
Can I use this with a Loom Starter account?
Only with an MP4 you already have, because Starter accounts can’t download videos. Loom’s own transcript is on Starter too, in the Transcript panel beside the video, with a button to copy it.
Is my Loom video uploaded?
No. The MP4 stays on your device. Your browser takes its sound and sends short pieces of it, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes each one and discards it. The picture is never sent, and NoteOwl keeps nothing.
Does the transcript show who is talking in the Loom?
No. The converter writes a single timed transcript without names, which is all a Loom with one narrator needs. For recordings with several voices, NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker.
What if the Loom is longer than 30 minutes?
The converter transcribes its first 30 minutes and says so above the transcript. Trim the MP4 into parts for the rest. Paid Loom plans have no recording limit, so a Loom can run well past it.
