Drop a .vtt file here to convert VTT to TXT: timestamps, cue numbers and tags go, and each speaker’s run of captions becomes one paragraph that starts with their name, so a meeting transcript reads like a conversation.

How it works
How do you convert a VTT file to text?
Open the .vtt file here and the text version appears beside it. Times, IDs and tags are removed; captions from the same speaker are joined into one paragraph that starts with their name. Copy it, or download a .txt or Word file.
- 1
Open the transcript
Drop the .vtt from your meeting app, pick it from your downloads, or paste its contents.
- 2
Keep or drop names
Each paragraph starts with who spoke. Untick Keep speaker names for the words alone.
- 3
Save it
Copy it into your notes, or download it as .txt, or as .docx to open in Word or Google Docs.
What does a meeting transcript look like after the conversion?
Here is a short stretch of a call transcript as a meeting app writes it, with voice tags and long cue IDs, and the text this converter returns. Priya’s two captions in a row became one paragraph.

Maya Rao: Morning both. Shall we start with the launch checklist? Priya Shah: Yes. Payments passed testing yesterday. The help pages still need screenshots. Daniel Okafor: I can take the screenshots this afternoon.
Which meeting transcripts can it read?
Any transcript saved as a .vtt file. Microsoft Teams marks each speaker with a voice tag; Zoom starts each caption with the speaker’s name. The converter recognises both, so the names carry into the text either way.

Why are repeated lines removed?
Because they aren’t repeated speech. Scrolling captions show each line twice: once as it’s written, once as it moves up to make room. The converter writes such a line once, so the text says each thing as often as it was said. A short “Okay. Okay.” stays.
What can you do with a meeting transcript as text?
Paste it into an email or a document, search it, or turn it into minutes. Once you convert VTT to text with one paragraph per turn, it’s easy to skim for decisions and to quote who said what.
For a record of the meeting, the meeting minutes template has a builder you fill in online. To make captions from the same file instead, use the VTT to SRT converter.
Is there a way to get meeting transcripts without downloading VTT files?
Yes: record the call on your Mac. NoteOwl captures Zoom, Teams and Google Meet calls with no bot joining, transcribes them with on-device AI models and labels each speaker, then writes the notes. Nothing is uploaded. See meeting notes without a bot.
FAQ
Questions about converting VTT to TXT
How do I convert a Microsoft Teams transcript to text?
Download the meeting’s transcript as a .vtt file, then open it in NoteOwl’s VTT to TXT converter. Each speaker’s turn becomes a paragraph that starts with their name, ready to copy or save as .txt or .docx.
Does it work with Zoom transcripts?
Yes. Zoom’s .vtt transcript starts each caption with the speaker’s name. The converter reads those names, joins each person’s consecutive lines and removes the times and caption numbers.
Can I remove the speaker names from the text?
Yes. Untick Keep speaker names and the paragraphs contain only the words. The paragraphs still break where the speaker changes, so the conversation stays easy to follow.
Can I convert VTT to a Word document?
Yes. Press Download .docx after the conversion. The Word file has one paragraph per speaker turn and opens in Word, Pages and Google Docs.
Is the VTT file uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser reads the VTT file and makes the text on your device. Nothing from the transcript is sent to NoteOwl or anyone else, which matters for private meetings.
Why does my text have no paragraphs?
When a VTT file has no speaker names and no pauses of 2 seconds or more, there is nowhere natural to break it. The converter then splits long stretches at a full stop after about 120 words.
