What does NoteOwl’s Greek transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 88.7% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:49

A short work call between Ελένη and Νίκος. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Σύμφωνη, κάνουμε μια κράτηση εμεί και την ακυρώνουμε μετά και η σελίδα ανοίγει τη Δευτέρα.

In English: [Agreed.] We’ll make a booking [ourselves] and cancel it afterwards, and the page goes live on Monday.

  2. Εντάξει, θα κάνω ότι δοκιμαστική κράτηση μέχρι την πέμπτη και θα σου στείλω τη βρήκα. Ωραία. Εγώ θα ενημερώσω ότι την υποδοχή να περιμένει τι πρώτε κρατήσει από τη

In English: Okay. I’ll make [the] test booking by Thursday and send you [what] I found. Good. I’ll let [that] reception know to expect [the first bookings] from the

Lines copied from NoteOwl’s transcript exactly as it wrote them, mistakes included. The English beside each line is our translation for readers, not NoteOwl output.

How does NoteOwl write Greek?

In the Greek alphabet, with the tonos on stressed syllables, commas and full stops, but no Greek question mark (;) anywhere. Most accents were right, as in ξενοδοχείο, πραγματική κράτηση, ακυρώνουμε and Δευτέρα.

The one number came out in digits, “τα 18 δομάτια”, though the speaker said δεκαοκτώ (eighteen). Monday kept its capital, Δευτέρα, but Thursday was written πέμπτη both times, in lower case, which reads as “fifth”.

NoteOwl starts a new line where a speaker pauses, so a line can end in the middle of a phrase, as “από τη” does above, with the next line opening on a capitalised Σελίδα.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Greek sample?

Word endings, above all. 88.7% of characters matched, and the commonest slip was a dropped final ς: more than a dozen words lost it, such as φωτογραφίε for φωτογραφίες, τιμέ for τιμές, εμεί for εμείς and τι for τις.

Some words were lost or garbled. The opening “Καλημέρα, Νίκο” is missing altogether, πληρωμές με κάρτα (card payments) collapsed into one non-word, πληρομέρτα, δωματίων (of the rooms) became Τοματίων, and ότι (that) appeared twice where nobody said it.

Greek spells one sound several ways, and NoteOwl sometimes picked the wrong one: δομάτια for δωμάτια, Σύμφωνη for Σύμφωνοι, τη βρήκα for τι βρήκα. Twice it wrote the placeholder <unk>, once where a full stop belonged and once in place of a question mark.

In the English beside the sample, square brackets mark the words NoteOwl got wrong or added.

How should you check a Greek transcript?

Read it for endings first. Look for words missing their final ς, especially τι where τις was meant, then for swaps between ο and ω, or ι, η and οι. Check each turn’s opening for a missed greeting or name, and treat any <unk> as missing punctuation.

Before you rely on Greek for a long meeting, try NoteOwl on a short recording of your own during the free trial. This sample is standard Greek from Greece; Cypriot Greek and regional accents weren’t tested.

Is there a Greek setting to turn on?

No. NoteOwl recognises Greek from the audio. The Spoken language menu in Settings → Auto-Context can pin only English, Hindi, Spanish, French or German, so for Greek dictation and meetings, choose Auto-detect.

Check it once if your Mac’s language is English, because the menu starts on English there, and while English is pinned, dictation and meetings are written in the Latin alphabet only: no Greek letter can appear. Imported recordings never use the menu; NoteOwl detects their language every time, as it did for this sample.

How do vocabulary rules work in Greek?

A Pro vocabulary rule replaces what NoteOwl writes with what you want, such as Τοματίων → δωματίων. It matches whole words in any mix of capitals, and Greek letters count as part of a word, so a rule never fires inside a longer one.

Greek nouns change their endings, and each form is a different word to a rule: in the sample, δωμάτια and δωματίων went wrong in two different ways. Keep rules for names and terms. A rule τι → τις would also change every real τι (what), as in “τι βρήκα”.

Is Greek speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Greek into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Greek transcription

Is Greek dictation free?

Yes, with no cap. Tap fn in any app, speak Greek, tap fn again, and the words type at your cursor; voice notes are free too. Pro, $79 once for one Mac, adds meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory, and the 7-day trial in the app needs no card.

Does Greek transcription work offline?

Yes, once the speech models are on your Mac. Your first Greek dictation on Auto-detect, and your first import, can each download a part of the model you don’t have yet, so do both once while online. After that, Greek needs no connection.

Does NoteOwl detect Greek automatically?

Imported recordings, always. Dictation and meetings, while Spoken language is set to Auto-detect; with English pinned, NoteOwl can’t write Greek letters at all.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Greek?

88.7% of characters matched on this page’s sample, punctuation and spaces aside. The slips were mostly dropped final ς, sound-alike spellings and a few missed or merged words, so read a Greek transcript through before you share it, and try your own recordings in the trial.

Can I import a Greek recording?

Yes, with Pro or during the trial. Drop an m4a, mp3, wav or mp4 file onto Transcripts, or click Import Recording. NoteOwl detects Greek, transcribes it on your Mac and separates the speakers.

Does it work for meetings in Greek?

Yes, with Pro. NoteOwl records your microphone and your Mac’s audio, so no bot joins the call. Afterwards you get the Greek transcript by speaker, a summary and action items. Set Spoken language to Auto-detect before the meeting starts.
