How it works

How do you transcribe Korean audio?

Choose the file and leave the language alone: this page already treats every piece as Korean. The recording is split at natural pauses, each piece comes back as Hangul, and the transcript fills in while you watch.

  1. 1

    Pick a Korean recording

A phone voice memo, a recorded call, a class or a meeting: MP3, M4A, WAV and video files all work.

  2. 2

    Hangul appears piece by piece

Each stretch of up to 30 seconds is decoded as Korean, through the first 30 minutes of the file.

  3. 3

    Copy or download

Take the text as it is, or save it as a Word file, plain text, or SRT and VTT subtitles for a Korean video.

How does the transcript write Korean?

In Hangul, with spaces between words and each particle kept on its noun. Compound nouns are often joined where a writer might space them, as in 해상봉쇄 or 안전경고. Korean spelling rules let many compounds, technical terms especially, be written either way.

Why is this converter fixed to Korean?

So nothing depends on guessing. When the language is detected piece by piece, a short reply or a quiet line can be taken for another language. Here every piece is decoded as Korean from the first second to the last.

Loanwords stay in Hangul too: an English film title spoken the Korean way came back as 내셔널 트레저. For a recording that switches between whole stretches of Korean and English, the main audio converter detects the language of each piece instead.

What should you check in a Korean transcript?

Names, numbers and words that sound like other words. Clear speech came back close to the original; the slips fitted another word: 깁슨 became 깁스, 오늘날 became 어느 날, and 아이티 (Haiti) came back as the letters IT.

  • Names

People and places are spelled by their sound. Compare each one with the audio before you quote it.

  • Figures

2주 (two weeks) once came back as 이주, which reads as “migration”. Read every number back.

  • Punctuation

Add the commas, quotation marks and brackets the transcript leaves out.

Which Korean recordings work best?

One person at a time, close to the microphone: interviews, lectures, sermons, voice memos and calls. Korean is the language of South and North Korea and of large communities abroad; if a speaker has a strong regional accent, read their parts back against the audio.

Can NoteOwl handle Korean on a Mac?

Yes. NoteOwl understands Korean on your Mac and transcribes Korean recordings and meetings there with unlimited transcription, labelling each speaker and keeping every conversation searchable. Nothing is uploaded, and its free dictation types Hangul into any app.

FAQ

Questions about Korean audio to text

Does it cost anything to transcribe Korean audio?

No. You can run 3 Korean files a day through it, each up to 30 minutes long, without signing up, and every download format is included.

Can it turn the Korean into English?

No, it writes Korean only, in Hangul, as it was said. Paste the Korean transcript into a translator if you need English; the paragraph times stay with the Korean text, so every line can still be found in the recording.

Will my Korean recording be saved anywhere?

No. While it works, the page passes short slices of the sound over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which returns the text and throws the audio away. NoteOwl keeps neither the recording nor the transcript, so save the text before you close the tab.

Can I make Korean subtitles with it?

Yes. Download SRT or VTT and every caption carries its start and end time in Hangul, ready for a video editor or YouTube. Add the commas the transcript leaves out before you publish.

Does it write numbers as digits?

Mostly. Years, months, rankings and counts came back as digits, such as 2011년 8월 and 11위. A full date once came back in Korean number words instead, so check dates and amounts against the audio.

Which files can I upload?

Audio in MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus or WebM, and the sound track of an MP4 or MOV video, so a screen recording or a downloaded video call works as well as a voice memo.
