How it works
How do you translate an OGG voice message?
Save the voice message as a file, drop it here and choose the language you read. The page decodes the Opus sound in your browser, has it transcribed and translates the words. A message of 30 seconds or less travels as a single piece, so it’s back almost at once.
- 1
Save the message
Download it from WhatsApp Web or Telegram Desktop, or copy the .opus file an Android phone keeps.
- 2
Drop it here
Translate into starts on English; change it if you read another language. Up to 30 minutes per file.
- 3
Read it, copy it
Paste the translation into your reply, or switch to Original to see the words as they were spoken.
How do you get a voice message out of WhatsApp or Telegram?
The easy way is on a computer: in WhatsApp Web or Telegram Desktop, open the message’s menu and download it, and an .ogg file with Opus sound lands in your Downloads folder. On Android, WhatsApp also keeps every voice note as an .opus file on the phone.

What’s inside an OGG voice message?
Usually Opus, a sound format built for speech over the internet, packed in an Ogg file. Older .ogg files, from games or music sites, hold Vorbis instead. Both decode in Chrome, Edge and Safari, and the page checks the contents rather than the name.
So .ogg, .oga and .opus all open the same way, and an Ogg file saved under the wrong ending opens too.
Does a short voice note translate well?
Usually, though a very short one gives the translator less to go on: a few words can be read more than one way, and a name may be misheard. If you know the language, choose it under Spoken in rather than relying on detection from a few seconds of speech.
Longer messages are translated a batch of lines at a time, so each line is read with the sentences around it, which settles words that could go either way.
Which languages can a voice message come back in?
English to start with, or any language under Translate into. Most pairs go straight across. Into Hindi or Tamil, a message spoken in a language other than English is translated into English first, then on into Hindi or Tamil; an English one goes straight in.

FAQ
Questions about translating OGG voice messages
Is the OGG translator free?
Yes, and there’s nothing to sign up for. Translate 3 voice messages or other OGG files a day, each up to 30 minutes long.
Does it work with Telegram voice notes?
Yes. Telegram stores voice messages as Ogg files with Opus sound. Save one from Telegram Desktop, drop it on this page, and the translation follows a few seconds later.
Is the voice message sent anywhere?
Only as sound, in short pieces. The browser opens the file on your device and passes those pieces to a cloud AI transcription service, then the words to a cloud AI translation service; each throws away what it received. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
Does the file have to end in .ogg?
No. The page looks at what’s inside rather than at the file’s ending, so .ogg, .oga and .opus voice notes are all read the same way.
Which browsers can open OGG files here?
Current Chrome, Edge and Safari on a Mac all decoded Ogg files with Opus and with Vorbis sound in our tests. Older browser versions can lack the decoder, so update first if a file won’t open.
Does it say who sent or spoke the message?
No. You get the words and their times, without names. In a voice note with one speaker that rarely matters; for recordings with several people, NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker.
