How it works
How do you transcribe Hindi audio?
Choose the recording. The page cuts it at pauses into pieces of up to 30 seconds and has each one written in Hindi, so the Devanagari text builds up paragraph by paragraph, with its times, while you wait.
- 1
Choose the Hindi recording
A WhatsApp voice note saved to your phone, a class, an interview or a call, as audio or video.
- 2
Devanagari comes back
Each piece is written in Hindi, never guessed, up to 30 minutes into the file.
- 3
Save your transcript
Copy it, or download Word, plain text, or SRT and VTT subtitles.
How is Hindi written in the transcript?
In Devanagari, with the danda (।) at the end of a sentence and commas between clauses. Numbers use the international digits that India uses officially, never ०–९, and some ordinals come back as words.

| A distance | 70 किलोमीटर, in Western digits |

What happens to English words in Hindi speech?
Most are written in Devanagari, as Hindi newspapers print them: टेलीविजन, प्लांट, स्पाइनल कॉर्ड, and pH as पीएच. Now and then a name or phrase comes back in Latin letters instead, as University of Dundee did.
So Hinglish, Hindi with English words dropped in, stays in one script on this page. If a speaker switches to whole sentences of English, use the main converter, which detects the language of every piece and writes English parts in English.
What needs correcting in a Hindi transcript?
Plan on a read-through with the audio playing. The transcript often spells a word the way it sounded: aspirated and plain letters swap, श becomes स, and names drift.
For example, गंभीर came back as गंबीर, लगभग as लगबग, शब्द as सब्द and सोलंकी as सुलंकी.
Nukta and chandrabindu
Mostly left out: ज़रूरत came back as जरूरत and धुआँ as धूआ. Add them back if your style keeps them.
Sentence ends
Many pieces end without a danda. Put one in where each sentence stops.
Short quotations
A quoted remark is the likeliest line to come back muddled. Check it word by word.
Why fix the language to Hindi?
Spoken Hindi and Urdu are very close, and a guessed language can put a piece in the wrong script. Fixed to Hindi, every piece is written in Devanagari, whether the speaker is from Delhi, Lucknow, Patna or Bhopal.
Can NoteOwl work in Hindi on a Mac?

FAQ
Questions about Hindi audio to text
Is it free to transcribe Hindi audio?
Yes. Up to 3 Hindi recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no sign-up. Word, text and subtitle downloads are included.
Can it write Hindi in Roman letters?
No. Set to Hindi, it writes Devanagari. For romanised Hindi, run the transcript through a transliteration tool afterwards; the paragraph times are unaffected.
Does it use Devanagari digits?
No. Numbers come back in the international digits 0 to 9, which is also the official form in India. Some ordinals and numbers come back spelled out as words, so check figures against the audio.
Where does my Hindi recording go?
Short pieces of the sound are sent over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which writes each one out and discards it. NoteOwl stores neither the recording nor the text: close the page and both are gone, so download first.
Can I make Hindi subtitles?
Yes. The SRT and VTT downloads give each Devanagari line its own start and end time. Correct names and add sentence breaks before you publish them.
Can it translate Hindi into English?
No. It writes the Hindi that was spoken. For English, paste the Hindi transcript into a translator and keep the original to check it against the recording.
