How it works
How do you translate a Spanish recording into English?
To translate Spanish audio to English, drop the recording here; the page listens for Spanish and writes English. The speech is transcribed in Spanish, then translated line by line, each line keeping its time. Read the English, and switch to the Spanish for the original wording.
- 1
Add the Spanish recording
A voice note from a relative, an interview, a class, a call with a supplier: MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.
- 2
Spanish, then English
Transcribed as Spanish, then translated into English. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.
- 3
Read or download
Copy the English, or save it as text or Word; the Spanish transcript downloads separately.
Why does the English sometimes say “he” when the Spanish didn’t?
Because Spanish often leaves out who did something and English can’t. “No ha podido tomarse medicamentos” names nobody: one test run wrote “He has not been able to take medication”, another “Medication … could not be taken”. When it matters who, check the line against the recording.
With nothing around it to go on, the English says so: “Llegó tarde porque perdió el tren” came back as “He/she arrived late because he/she missed the train”, and “Su hermana” as “His/her sister”. Inside a real conversation the lines around it usually settle it, which is why the transcript is translated in batches rather than one sentence at a time.
How does Spanish speech read in English?
Shorter and more direct. Our Spanish test transcript came out about an eighth shorter in English. Tag questions turn into English ones (“¿cierto?” became “right?”), and fillers into English fillers: “Es que, o sea, no sé” became “It’s just, I mean, I don’t know”.
That test recording, 2 minutes 30 seconds of Spanish, came back in English in 6 seconds.
- Esto parece tener sentido, ya que en la Tierra no se percibe su movimiento, ¿cierto?
- English translationThat seems to make sense, since on Earth its movement is not perceived, right?
- … no alcanzó la magnitud de 6,5 exigida a tal fin.
- English translation… did not reach the required magnitude of 6.5.
| Spanish transcript | English translation |
|---|---|
| Esto parece tener sentido, ya que en la Tierra no se percibe su movimiento, ¿cierto? | That seems to make sense, since on Earth its movement is not perceived, right? |
| … no alcanzó la magnitud de 6,5 exigida a tal fin. | … did not reach the required magnitude of 6.5. |
What happens to Spanish numbers and dates?
Mostly the English way. In our test a decimal comma became a point (6,5 became 6.5), 1.250 euros became 1,250 euros, and “el 16 de octubre de 2026” became October 16, 2026. Times stayed on the 24-hour clock: 15:30, not 3:30 p.m.
Does it understand Spanish from Spain and from Latin America?
Yes. The page listens for Spanish as one language, so Madrid, Mexico City and Buenos Aires accents are all transcribed in standard spelling before translation. Our test recording was Latin American Spanish. Regional words are translated by meaning.

FAQ
Questions about translating Spanish audio into English
Is the Spanish to English audio translator free?
Yes. Translate 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account. The English, the Spanish transcript and every download are included.
Can I translate a WhatsApp voice note in Spanish?
Yes. Save the voice note from the chat as a file, usually an OPUS or OGG file, and drop it on the page. A short voice note comes back in English in seconds.
Do I get the Spanish transcript as well?
Yes. Switch the result to Original to read the Spanish, and save it as text or SRT. It has the same times as the English, so you can match any line.
What if the speakers switch to English?
This page writes every part as Spanish first. For a recording that mixes the two, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically, which keeps English lines as they are.
Does it say who is speaking?
No. The English transcript has the words and times without names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Your browser reads it and sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Spanish text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it was sent. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
