How it works

How do you add Vietnamese subtitles to an English video?

To translate an English video to Vietnamese, drop it here. The browser takes out the sound, the English is transcribed and translated, and the Vietnamese is set out as subtitles inside the time each English sentence takes. Download the Vietnamese SRT and add it to your video.

  1. 1

    Add the English video

MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM; the picture stays on your device.

  2. 2

    Vietnamese subtitles are made

Transcribed, translated and timed, for up to 30 minutes of each video.

  3. 3

    Save the .vi.srt

Or VTT; the Original switch keeps the English subtitles too.

How do Vietnamese subtitles fit on screen?

On lines of up to 42 characters, 2 per subtitle, each shown long enough to read at 17 characters a second. Vietnamese runs a little longer than English, and it is laid out after translating, so its subtitles needn’t match the English ones one for one.

Can a line break split a Vietnamese word?

Yes, because Vietnamese puts a space between syllables and a line can break at any space. In our check, “phần trăm” (percent) was split across two lines, and a date broke between “ngày 16” and “tháng 10”. Names stayed whole: “Dr. Patel và Maria Lopez”.

Moving the stray syllable to the other line in the SRT takes a moment and leaves the timing alone.

How do prices, dates and exclamations look in Vietnamese subtitles?

Written for Vietnamese readers: “6,5 phần trăm” with a decimal comma, “1.250 USD” with a thousands point and USD for the dollar sign, and the date as day, month, year with “3:30 chiều” for 3:30 p.m. “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “Oa! Thật là kinh ngạc!”.

The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.

What should you check before uploading Vietnamese subtitles?

Titles and terms left in English. “Dr. Patel” kept the English “Dr.” instead of Bác sĩ, which viewers may or may not expect. Product names and jargon can stay in English too; decide what your audience reads more easily.

In our test of 50 sentences, translation into Vietnamese scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Titles, terms and the word for “you” are still choices only you can make for your viewers.

FAQ

Vietnamese subtitles for English videos: questions

Is the English to Vietnamese video translator free?

Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account and no watermark; download both the Vietnamese and the English subtitles.

How do I put the Vietnamese subtitles on YouTube?

In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, choose the video, add Vietnamese and upload the .vi.srt as a file with timing. Viewers can then switch the player’s subtitles to Vietnamese.

Will tone marks display in the player?

Yes. The subtitle files are UTF-8, which keeps every Vietnamese letter. If you burn them into the picture, use a font that includes Vietnamese characters.

Does it dub the video into Vietnamese?

No. It makes Vietnamese subtitle files; your video’s sound and picture are left as they are.

How does it address viewers?

With bạn, the neutral “you” between equals. Channels that speak to their audience as a group or by kinship terms can change it in the SRT.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Only short pieces of the sound leave your browser for a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text for a cloud AI translation service; both discard what they get. The picture is never sent.
