How it works

How do you transcribe Catalan audio?

Just choose the file. The converter is already set to Catalan: it splits the sound at pauses into short pieces, writes each one in Catalan and shows the paragraphs as they arrive, each with the time it starts.

  1. 1

    Choose a Catalan recording

A class, a podcast, a radio interview or a voice note, as audio or as video.

  2. 2

    Catalan, from the first word

Each piece is written in Catalan and nothing is left to guessing, for up to 30 minutes of the file.

  3. 3

    Copy or download

Copy the transcript, or save it as Word, plain text, or SRT and VTT subtitles.

Does it write Catalan accents, ç and l·l?

Yes, and closely. Grave and acute accents land on the right vowels (bàsquet, Aristòtil, conseqüentment), ç and ï appear where they belong, and the punt volat survives in sol·licituds and satèl·lit. Elisions and pronouns keep their apostrophes and hyphens, as in d’aixecar-se.

How are numbers and times written?

Mostly as figures in the Catalan style: thousands take a full stop (10.000) and a time takes one too (11.35). Abbreviations can come back spelled out, as F1 did, written as Fórmula 1, and a number in a name can turn into a word: 3 Regnes became Tres Regnes.

A number in a name
Written3 Regnes → Tres Regnes
Thousands
Written10.000 anys
A time
Writtena les 11.35 pm
A speed
Written70 km/h → 70 km hora

How close is the Catalan transcript to what was said?

Very close on clear speech: many sentences came back word for word, and most of the rest by a word or two. The slips were borrowed words and names: hoquei came back as hockey, calamarsa as calamar-se, and Layton as Leighton.

Quotation marks and brackets are left out, so add them where a quotation matters, and check English names, which can turn into Catalan words: USA Gymnastics came back as “Usos gimnàstics”.

What if the speakers switch between Catalan and Spanish?

This page writes every piece as Catalan, which suits a recording that is mostly Catalan. If people change to Spanish or English for long stretches, use the main converter: it detects the language of each piece, so the Spanish parts come back in Spanish.

Does NoteOwl on a Mac understand Catalan?

Not Catalan: keep this page for that. NoteOwl on a Mac understands 34 languages, Spanish, French and English among them, and transcribes recordings and meetings in them with unlimited transcription, with every speaker labelled and nothing uploaded.

FAQ

Questions about Catalan audio to text

Is the Catalan converter free?

Yes, entirely: 3 files a day, the first 30 minutes of each, with no account, and every download included.

Does it work for Valencian and Balearic Catalan?

The Balearic word tomàtiga came back as tomàtiga, just as it was said, not as tomàquet. Read local names and terms back against the recording all the same.

Is my Catalan recording stored?

No. The page sends short pieces of the sound, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each and deletes it. NoteOwl keeps no copy of the recording or the text.

Can I make Catalan subtitles?

Yes. Download SRT or VTT: each line carries its start and end time, with the accents and l·l intact, ready for a video editor or a video site.

Can it read the sound of a video?

Yes. Drop in an MP4 or MOV, such as a recorded class or a downloaded video call, and it transcribes the audio track.
