How it works
How do you transcribe Indonesian audio?
Drop the recording here. The page slices it at pauses, writes each short slice in Indonesian and stacks the paragraphs up with their times. You can start reading before the last slice is done.

How does the transcript write Indonesian?
In standard Indonesian spelling, with reduplicated words kept whole and hyphenated: orang-orang, kadang-kadang, negara-negara, even mencorat-coret. Thousands take a full stop, as in 10.000, and an amount in dollars came back as “5 dolar dan 100 dolar”.

What needs tidying in an Indonesian transcript?
Mostly punctuation. More than half the pieces ended without a full stop, and some sentences gained capitals halfway through, such as “Dengan” or “Sebab”. The words themselves came back close to what was said.
A few spellings drifted from the KBBI: disini for di sini, seringkali for sering kali, and once the Malaysian Sepanyol and Perancis for Spanyol and Prancis. A quick find-and-replace sorts all of them.
Are names and English terms written correctly?
Common ones are. Rarer names are spelled by ear: Liggins came back as Ligin, and two English terms turned into Indonesian-sounding words, T-Rex into tirai and SANParks into Sun Pups. Check those against the audio.
What about Indonesian mixed with English?
This page writes everything as Indonesian, which suits Indonesian with the odd English word dropped in. If a speaker switches to English for whole stretches, the main converter detects the language of each piece instead and writes those parts in English.
Does your work also happen in English?
Then NoteOwl on a Mac can help. It understands 34 languages, English among them but not Indonesian, and transcribes recordings and meetings in them with unlimited transcription, labelling speakers and keeping it all searchable. Keep this page for Indonesian; its free dictation types English into any app.
FAQ
Questions about Indonesian audio to text
Is the Indonesian audio to text converter free?
Yes. You can convert 3 Indonesian recordings a day, the first 30 minutes of each, without making an account, and download them in any format.
Does it work for Malay too?
Malay has its own page, set to Malay, which keeps Malaysian spellings such as bahagian and kerana. This page writes Indonesian spelling.
Is my Indonesian recording saved?
No. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each one and throws it away. NoteOwl keeps no audio and no Indonesian transcript, so download it before you leave.
Can I get subtitles for an Indonesian video?
Yes. Drop the MP4 or MOV and download SRT or VTT: each line has a start and end time. Add the missing full stops first so the captions break cleanly.
Can it translate Indonesian into English?
No. It writes the Indonesian as spoken. Paste the transcript into a translator for English, and keep the original with its times to check against the recording.
