How it works
How do you put English subtitles into Indonesian?
Drop the SRT or VTT here; Indonesian is already chosen as the language to translate into. Press Translate, read the Indonesian beside the times it keeps, and download. Neighbouring subtitles are sent together, so a sentence split over two of them still reads as one.
- 1
Open the subtitle file
An .srt or .vtt from YouTube Studio, a course platform or a video editor, in English or another language on the list.
- 2
Translate into Bahasa Indonesia
Only the subtitle text is translated; numbers and timecodes are copied across untouched.
- 3
Save the Indonesian file
As SRT or VTT, or as a bilingual SRT with the original line above the Indonesian.
How much longer are Indonesian subtitles than English ones?
About a tenth longer, in our test of English sentences translated into Indonesian. Words such as mengirimkan and perjalanan take room, but each subtitle keeps its time and still gets two lines at most, a little fuller where it must.
Lines aim for 42 characters and break between phrases, never inside a word. Doubled words such as tim-tim or negara-negara stay whole, hyphen included, and the times are your file’s own, so nothing needs re-syncing.
Will the Indonesian say Anda or kamu?
Anda. Our test lines used the polite Anda throughout, even in “Yah, Anda tahu” for “Well, you know”, and “sir” became “Pak”. That suits tutorials and company videos; for a vlog or a gaming channel, swap Anda for kamu where it should sound friendlier.
How are numbers and times written in Indonesian subtitles?
The Indonesian way: a decimal comma, a dot between thousands and a full stop in clock times. In our test, “6.5 percent to $1,250” came back as “6,5 persen menjadi $1.250”, and 3:30 p.m. as “pukul 15.30”.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- Indonesian subtitleHarganya naik sebesar 6,5 persen menjadi $1.250.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- Indonesian subtitleRapatnya diadakan pada 16 Oktober 2026, pukul 15.30.
- Thank you all for coming today.
- Indonesian subtitleTerima kasih semuanya sudah datang hari ini.
- Please sit down, sir.
- Indonesian subtitleSilakan duduk, Pak.

Is this Indonesian or Malay?
Indonesian. The two are close, but the translation chose Indonesian words and spelling: rapat for a meeting, Jumat for Friday, menelepon for phoning back. Malaysian viewers can follow it; for an audience in Malaysia, the Malay page writes mesyuarat and Jumaat instead.
How good is the translation into Indonesian?
In our test, translation from English into Indonesian scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Dia means he or she, so “Our doctor said she…” lost nothing; spend your read-through on names, product terms and Anda.
Need the English subtitles first?
NoteOwl on a Mac transcribes English recordings with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles with each speaker’s name, ready to bring here. The app doesn’t transcribe Indonesian; for subtitles of Indonesian speech, use the Indonesian subtitle generator.
FAQ
Questions about Indonesian subtitle translation
Is translating subtitles to Indonesian free?
Yes: 3 subtitle files a day, each up to 30,000 characters of text, with no account to create and nothing stamped on the subtitles.
Can I show English and Indonesian at the same time?
Yes. The bilingual SRT puts the original line on top and the Indonesian under it in every subtitle, which helps learners of Bahasa Indonesia and anyone checking the translation.
Will the Indonesian subtitles stay in sync with my video?
Yes. Start and end times and subtitle numbers come from your file unchanged, so the Indonesian appears exactly when the original did.
Can I translate Korean or Japanese subtitles into Indonesian?
Yes. Pick the file’s language under From, or let the page detect it. Drama and anime subtitles come back in Indonesian with the same timing, translated straight from Korean or Japanese.
Are styling and positions kept?
Italics around a whole subtitle and a speaker’s “Name:” are kept. VTT positions and styling are not carried over, so a caption placed at the top of the screen comes back in the default place.
Is my subtitle file stored?
No. The browser opens it, and only the subtitle text travels, in batches over a secure connection, to a cloud AI translation service that translates it and keeps nothing. NoteOwl saves neither file.
