How it works
How do you translate a Bosnian recording into English?
To translate Bosnian audio to English, drop the recording on this page. The speech is written down as Bosnian in short pieces, then the lines are put into English in batches, each with the time it was said. Read the English, and switch to Original for the Bosnian wording.
- 1
Choose the Bosnian recording
A Viber or WhatsApp voice message, a family video’s sound, an interview: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and others.
- 2
Bosnian, then English
It is transcribed in Bosnian and translated. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.
- 3
Keep the English transcript
Copy it, or save TXT, Word, SRT or VTT. The Bosnian transcript saves the same way.
How well does Bosnian speech come out in English?
Strongly. In our test, Bosnian speech came through into English with a strong result: the transcript slipped mostly on names and rare words, and the English kept close to what was said.
Foreign phrases come through too: a speaker who used the French “bien elev, dobro odgojen” came back as “like someone who is ‘bien élevé’—well-bred”, the phrase restored and explained.
What should you check in the English transcript?
Abbreviations and names, which can be misheard before they are translated. Our test transcript once heard SAD, the Bosnian for the USA, as “SED”, and the English kept “the SED president”, while the same speaker’s “trupe SAD” correctly became “US troops”.
A misheard word is translated as it was heard, so when a line looks odd, read the Bosnian transcript at the same time and listen to that moment of the recording.
How do Bosnian names and words come into English?
Names lose their Bosnian case endings but keep their letters: “od Raonića” became “to Raonić”. Everyday Bosnian reads as plain English: “Prošle sedmice” became “Last week”, and “više od hiljadu godina” became “more than a thousand years”.
- Nedavno je izgubio od Raonića na turniru Brisban Open.
- EnglishHe recently lost to Raonić at the Brisbane Open tournament.
- Prošle sedmice…
- EnglishLast week…
- …požar do 11.35. uvečer.
- English…the fire by 11:35 PM.

How are Bosnian times and dates written in English?
As English writes them. “Do 11.35. uvečer”, 11.35 in the evening, became “by 11:35 PM”, with a colon and PM, and “Velike nagrade Mađarske 2009. godine” lost the full stop Bosnian puts after a year: “the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix”.
Working with English recordings too?
NoteOwl doesn’t transcribe Bosnian, but it understands English on your Mac: it transcribes English recordings with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and keeps every conversation searchable. For a Bosnian transcript without translation, use Bosnian audio to text.
FAQ
Bosnian audio into English: questions
Is the Bosnian to English audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account. The English and Bosnian transcripts and every download are included.
Can I translate a Bosnian voice message from Viber or WhatsApp?
Yes. Save the voice message as a file, usually OPUS, OGG or M4A, and drop it on this page. The English comes back with the time of each line.
What about Croatian or Serbian speakers?
This page writes all speech down as Bosnian, in Latin letters. For Croatian recordings, the Croatian to English page keeps Croatian spelling in the transcript; Serbian isn’t one of the languages offered.
Can I save the English as a Word document?
Yes. The Word file gives the recording’s name, its length and “Translated: Bosnian → English”, then the English paragraphs, with or without their times.
Does it name the speakers?
No. The English transcript has words and times without speaker names.
Where does my recording go?
Nowhere to be kept. Short pieces of the sound go to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Bosnian text to a cloud AI translation service; both discard what they were sent, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
