How it works

How do you put English subtitles on a Bosnian video?

To translate a Bosnian video to English, drop the file here. Your browser takes the sound out of it, the Bosnian speech is transcribed and translated, and the English is timed as subtitles to the moments it is spoken. Download the SRT for your player or upload.

  1. 1

    Drop in the Bosnian video

MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM: a family celebration, an interview, a lecture from Sarajevo.

  2. 2

    Bosnian speech, English subtitles

Transcribed in Bosnian, then translated. Up to 30 minutes per video.

  3. 3

    Download SRT or VTT

Switch to Original for the Bosnian subtitles, with the same timing.

How many English subtitles will a Bosnian video get?

As many as the English sentences and pauses need. Bosnian and English ran about the same length in our test, and the English is laid out on its own: at most 2 lines of 42 characters per subtitle, each shown long enough to read at 17 characters a second.

So the English won’t always line up one for one with the Bosnian subtitles under Original, though both start when the words are spoken.

Do the English subtitles follow what the speaker said?

Yes, even where a familiar English version says otherwise. In our test a Bosnian sentence said the silence in the city “was broken” (“prekinuta je tišina”), and the English subtitle kept that, with “ujutro” becoming “a.m.”: “Exactly at 8:46 a.m., the silence in the city was broken”.

Tačno u 8:46 sati ujutro prekinuta je tišina u gradu…
English subtitleExactly at 8:46 a.m., the silence in the city was broken…
Petnaest ovih stijena pripisuje se kiši meteora od prošlog jula.
English subtitleFifteen of these rocks are attributed to the meteor shower of last July.
…kao što su Kina, Istočna Evropa i Brazil.
English subtitle…such as China, Eastern Europe, and Brazil.

Can a misheard place name still come out right?

Sometimes. Our test transcript heard “kublon luku” where the speaker meant Kowloon’s harbour, and the English subtitle still read “sail into Kowloon harbor”. Places the speaker names clearly, like Missouri or Six Flags St. Louis, came through as written.

What should you check before sharing the subtitles?

Nicknames and titles, which may come back word for word: “Piquet mlađi” became “the younger Piquet” rather than “Piquet Jr.”. Bosnian speech came through into English with a strong result in our test, so most lines need nothing; names deserve the closest look.

FAQ

English subtitles for Bosnian videos: questions

Is the Bosnian to English video translator free?

Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account and no watermark. English and Bosnian subtitle files are both included.

Can relatives abroad watch a family video with these subtitles?

Yes. Download the English SRT and send it with the video; most players, VLC among them, load a subtitle file with the same name as the video.

Does it replace the Bosnian sound?

No. It writes English subtitles; the Bosnian voices stay, and the video file itself isn’t changed.

How do I add English subtitles to a Bosnian YouTube video?

In YouTube Studio, choose Subtitles, pick the video, add English and upload the SRT with timing. Add the Bosnian SRT from Original as a second language if you like.

What if the people in the video also speak English?

This page transcribes everything as Bosnian. For a video that mixes languages, use the main video translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Only short pieces of its sound go to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Bosnian text to a cloud AI translation service, and both discard it. The picture stays on your device; NoteOwl keeps nothing.
