How it works
How do you translate English audio into French?
To translate English audio to French, drop the recording on this page; it expects English speech and writes French. The English is transcribed in short pieces, each line is translated with its time, and the French appears as a transcript to read, copy or save.
- 1
Drop in the English recording
MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC or OGG: a webinar, an interview, a supplier call.
- 2
English, then French
Transcribed, then translated, up to 30 minutes of each recording.
- 3
Save the French
Copy it, or keep it as TXT or Word; the English is under Original.
What do you get from an English recording in French?
French text grouped into timed paragraphs. Paste it into an email, or download a Word file whose first lines give the recording’s length, “Translated: English → French” and today’s date. Switch to Original for the English, on the same timeline, whenever a sentence needs checking.
Does the French transcript say vous or tu?
Vous. “Please sit down, sir” became “Asseyez-vous, monsieur, s’il vous plaît”, and in our test even casual English took vous. That suits a client call or an interview with an expert; for a chat between friends, change the verbs as well as the pronoun.
What does French have to decide that English didn’t say?
Who is a woman, and how to speak of a group. “Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow” kept the woman: “Notre médecin a dit qu’elle rappellerait demain”. A mixed audience takes the masculine plural, as in “Merci à tous d’être venus aujourd’hui”.

Can you quote figures from the French transcript?
Yes, after a check. French writes amounts as “1 250 $” and times on the 24-hour clock, and two runs of our test wrote the same time two ways, “15 h 30” and “15h30”. Settle on one style, and compare each figure with the English at the same time.

FAQ
Questions about English recordings in French
Is the English to French audio translator free?
Yes: 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, without an account. The French transcript, the English transcript and every download are yours to keep.
How good is the French?
In our test of translation from English, French scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The things to read for are register (vous or tu), the gender of people English left vague, and names.
Does it read the French aloud?
No. The French is written: on screen, as a text or Word file, or as subtitles. There is no spoken version.
What if part of the recording is in French already?
This page transcribes everything as English. For a recording that moves between English and French, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Will I see who said each line?
No. The web transcript holds the words and their times, not speakers. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.
What happens to my recording?
It stays in your browser. Short pieces of the sound go to a cloud AI transcription service and the English text to a cloud AI translation service; neither keeps it, and NoteOwl stores no audio or text.
