How it works
How do you translate an English recording into Norwegian?
To translate English audio to Norwegian, add the recording to this page, which expects English speech and writes Bokmål. The English is transcribed in short pieces, every line is translated with its time, and the Norwegian transcript is ready to read or save.
- 1
Add the English audio
A webinar, an interview, a phone call or a voice note, as MP3, M4A, WAV or a similar file.
- 2
Transcribed, then translated
English text first, then Norwegian. Each file can be up to 30 minutes long.
- 3
Save the Norwegian
Copy it, or save text or Word. Original brings back the English transcript.
What do you get in Norwegian?
A Norwegian transcript split into paragraphs, each headed by the time it was spoken. Paste it into a report or save a Word document headed “Translated: English → Norwegian”. The English transcript, with the same times, downloads on its own.
Is the Norwegian written in Bokmål?
Yes. The translation is asked for Bokmål, the written standard most Norwegians use, and it reads that way: “Our doctor said she would call back” became “Legen vår sa at hun ville ringe tilbake”, with “vår” after the noun, as Bokmål usually puts it. There is no Nynorsk option.
How is “you” handled in the Norwegian?
As du for one person, which is how Norwegians speak to each other. “Thank you all for coming today” needed no pronoun: “Takk til alle som kom i dag.” Polite “sir” stayed English, “Vennligst sett deg ned, sir”, so you may want to cut it from a written record.
Requests
“Can you send me the report before Friday?” → “Kan du sende meg rapporten før fredag?”
Fillers
“Well, you know” → “Vel, du vet”, kept as spoken.
Exclamations
“Wow! That’s amazing!” → “Wow! Det er fantastisk!”
What should you check before you share the Norwegian?
Prices, a few word choices, and anything the English transcript misheard, since a misheard word gets translated as heard. “$1,250” kept its English comma, “the session” became “økten” (check such words suit your context), and names stayed as transcribed.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- NorwegianPrisen gikk opp med 6,5 prosent til $1,250.
- Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session.
- NorwegianDr. Patel og Maria Lopez vil lede økten.
- The teachers were tired after the trip.
- NorwegianLærerne var slitne etter turen.

How well does English translate into Norwegian?
Very well in our test: translation from English into Norwegian scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. The Norwegian came out about as long as the English, so a transcript keeps roughly its original length.

FAQ
Questions about translating English audio into Norwegian
Is the English to Norwegian audio translator free?
Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account. The Norwegian transcript, the English transcript and every download come with it.
Can I get the Norwegian in Word?
Yes. The Word file opens with the recording’s name, its length and “Translated: English → Norwegian”, followed by the paragraphs with their times, which you can turn off.
Can it write Nynorsk instead of Bokmål?
No. The translation is always Bokmål. For a Nynorsk document, start from the Bokmål text and adapt it.
Does it read the Norwegian aloud?
No. You get written Norwegian as text, Word or subtitle files, not spoken audio.
What if people speak Norwegian in the recording too?
This page transcribes everything as English. For a meeting that switches between English and Norwegian, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.
Is my recording stored?
No. It stays on your device; short pieces of its sound go to a cloud AI transcription service and the English text to a cloud AI translation service, and each discards what it gets. NoteOwl keeps no audio or text.
