How it works

How do you translate English audio into Portuguese?

To translate English audio to Portuguese, drop the recording here; the page is set to English speech and Portuguese text. It writes down the English in short pieces, translates each line and keeps its time. Read the Portuguese, compare any line with the English, then save.

  1. 1

    Add the English recording

A meeting, a podcast, a lecture or a voice note, as MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC or OGG.

  2. 2

    English text, then Portuguese

Transcribed first, then translated. Up to 30 minutes of each recording.

  3. 3

    Copy or save

TXT or Word for the Portuguese; Original for the English transcript.

Is the transcript in Brazilian or European Portuguese?

Brazilian. “Can you send me the report before Friday?” came back as “Você pode me enviar o relatório antes de sexta-feira?”, and the filler “you know” as “sabe”. For readers in Portugal, drop the você and put the pronoun after the verb: “Pode enviar-me…?”.

Fillers survive as Portuguese ones: “Well, you know, it’s kind of a big deal” became “Bem, sabe, é algo bem importante”. Keep them for a faithful record of what was said, or tidy them when you quote.

What does Portuguese need to know that English doesn’t say?

Sometimes the speaker’s gender. “Thank you all for coming today” became “Obrigado a todos por virem hoje”, the form a man uses; a woman would say “Obrigada”. The translation works from text alone, so fix thank-yous and self-descriptions where a woman is speaking.

Which details should you check before quoting the Portuguese?

Dates, times and people. Times move to the 24-hour clock with an h (“às 15h30”), and dates take Portuguese order. “Our doctor said she…” kept the woman as “Nossa médica”, but where English gives no clue, Portuguese still has to pick a gender.

The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
PortugueseA reunião será em 16 de outubro de 2026, às 15h30.
Our doctor said she would call back tomorrow.
PortugueseNossa médica disse que ligaria de volta amanhã.

How well does English go into Portuguese?

Well. In our test of translation from English, Portuguese scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. A word misheard in the English transcript is translated as heard, so a line that makes no sense is worth checking against the recording at its time.

FAQ

Questions about English recordings in Portuguese

Is the English to Portuguese audio translator free?

Yes. Up to 3 recordings a day, each as long as 30 minutes, without an account. You get the Portuguese transcript, the English one and every download.

Can I save the Portuguese as a Word document?

Yes. The Word file is named after your recording and starts with its length, “Translated: English → Portuguese” and the date, followed by the Portuguese paragraphs, with or without times.

Will it read the Portuguese aloud?

No. The result is written Portuguese (text, Word or subtitles), not a spoken version.

What if part of the recording is in Portuguese?

Everything is transcribed as English on this page. For speech that switches between English and Portuguese, the main audio translator with Detect automatically handles both.

Does it show who is speaking?

No, the web transcript has no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.

Is the recording uploaded?

Your browser reads the file and sends short pieces of its sound to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service. Neither keeps what it receives, and NoteOwl stores no audio or text.
