How it works
How do you add Portuguese subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Portuguese, drop it on this page. The browser pulls out the sound; the English is transcribed and translated; the Portuguese is laid out as subtitles that start as the English is spoken. Download the SRT or VTT when it’s ready.

Choose the English video
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V or 3GP; your picture stays on the device.

Portuguese SRT or VTT; Original gives you the English subtitles too.
Will Portuguese subtitles fit on screen?
Yes. Portuguese runs a little longer than English, so it gets its own subtitle layout: no more than 2 lines of about 42 characters, each left up long enough to read, beginning as the English words are spoken.
The Portuguese subtitles follow the Portuguese sentences and the pauses in the speech rather than pairing off with the English ones, which reads more naturally than squeezing each translation into the English layout.
How are prices and numbers shown in Portuguese subtitles?
With Brazilian conventions. “The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250” became “O preço subiu 6,5 por cento para $1.250”: a decimal comma and a thousands dot, with the dollar sign still in front. Write “US$” if your viewers expect it.
How do the subtitles address viewers?
Politely and in Brazilian style. “Please sit down, sir” became “Por favor, sente-se, senhor”, and everyday questions take você, as Brazilian viewers expect. A channel aimed at Portugal should read the subtitles for Brazilian phrasing before publishing.
What happens to names and groups in Portuguese subtitles?
Names stay as written and titles keep their usual shape: “Dr. Patel and Maria Lopez will lead the session” became “O Dr. Patel e Maria Lopez liderarão a sessão”. A mixed group takes the masculine plural: “Os professores estavam cansados depois da viagem”.
Exclamations take Portuguese spelling, too: “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “Uau! Isso é incrível!”.

FAQ
Portuguese subtitles for English videos: questions
Is the English to Portuguese video translator free?
Yes. Translate 3 videos a day, each up to 30 minutes long, without an account or a watermark. Portuguese SRT and VTT and the English subtitles are included.
Is the video dubbed into Portuguese?
No. You get Portuguese subtitles; the video and its English sound stay exactly as they were.
How good is the Portuguese?
In our test of translation from English, Portuguese scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Before publishing, look over prices, names and any line where Portuguese had to choose a gender.
Where do I add the Portuguese SRT?
In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, add Portuguese and upload the SRT with timing. Video editors such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve import SRT too; web players often want the VTT.
Can I get the English subtitles as well?
Yes. Switch to Original and download the English SRT; publishing both lets each viewer choose a language.
Does my video leave my computer?
No. The sound is separated in your browser; short pieces go to a cloud AI transcription service and the English text to a cloud AI translation service, which discard them after replying. The picture is never sent.
