How it works

How do you get an Italian transcript from Spanish audio?

Add the recording here to translate Spanish audio to Italian. The page is set to Spanish, so each short piece of speech is written in Spanish; the lines then go for translation in batches, and the Italian keeps every time. Original shows the Spanish.

  1. 1

    Add a Spanish recording

A conference talk, a podcast, an interview for an article: any common audio file.

  2. 2

    Spanish written, Italian made

Transcribed in Spanish, translated into Italian, up to 30 minutes a file.

  3. 3

    Take the Italian with you

Copy the text or save TXT or Word, with or without the times.

Does usted become Lei in Italian?

That’s the natural match: both are polite forms that take a third-person verb, and tú matches tu. From English, our Italian used tu for everyday lines and Lei with “sir” (“si sieda, signore”). In a formal Spanish interview, check that Lei runs all the way through.

How does the Italian write times and numbers?

The Italian way, with one leftover from Spanish: “8:46 a. m.” came through as “8:46 a.m.”, where Italian writes plain 8:46. From English, Italian used a decimal comma, a thousands dot and the 24-hour clock: “6,5”, “1.250”, “alle 15:30”.

Spanish transcripts already write decimals with a comma, so a figure such as 6,5 crosses into Italian unchanged. Morning and evening markers are the thing to tidy.

Which Spanish phrases come out too literally in Italian?

Set phrases, sometimes. “Una multitud que había agotado los boletos” became “una folla che aveva esaurito i biglietti”, word for word, where the human Italian says “il tutto esaurito”. “Expulsaron a Piquet Jr.”, which meant he was dropped by his team, came back as “hanno espulso”.

Other lines found the Italian idiom straight away: “una posición contundente” became “una posizione dominante”, and “en julio pasado” “lo scorso luglio”.

What should you check in the Italian?

Names, titles and genders. Spanish “la doctora” says plainly that the doctor is a woman, but Italian often uses the masculine medico for anyone: from English, our test turned “Our doctor said she…” into “Il nostro medico”. Names stay as the Spanish transcript spelled them.

  • Women’s titles

Check that a woman named in Spanish stays one in Italian.

  • Times

Remove a stray “a.m.” or “p.m.” left from the Spanish.

  • Idioms

Read set phrases and sports or business terms against the recording.

What did the Spanish to Italian test show?

Clear Italian, about as long as the Spanish, in ten test sentences that had a professional Italian translation beside them. Two lines as they came back:

El ataque sometió a una intensa presión a los vínculos entre India y Pakistán.
ItalianL’attacco ha sottoposto a una forte pressione i legami tra India e Pakistan.
En 2009, brasileño sufrió un traumatismo agudo en su cabeza en una colisión durante el Gran Premio de Hungría.
ItalianNel 2009, il brasiliano ha subito un trauma acuto alla testa in una collisione durante il Gran Premio d’Ungheria.

FAQ

Questions about translating Spanish audio into Italian

Is the Spanish to Italian audio translator free?

Yes, and there’s no account. Each day you can translate 3 recordings of up to 30 minutes; the Italian, the Spanish transcript and all downloads are included.

Does it understand Spanish accents from Latin America?

Yes. The page listens for Spanish as a single language, so speakers from Mexico, Argentina or Spain are all written in standard Spanish spelling before the Italian is made.

Can I download the Italian as Word?

Yes. The Word file begins with the length of the recording and “Translated: Spanish → Italian”, followed by the Italian paragraphs and their times.

What if the recording is partly in Italian?

This page reads all of it as Spanish. For a recording with both languages, use the main audio translator and choose Detect automatically for the spoken language.

Does the transcript name the speakers?

No, the web translator gives words and times only. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in its transcripts.

What happens to my file?

Nothing is kept. Your browser sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service and the Spanish text to a cloud AI translation service, both of which discard it; NoteOwl stores neither.
