How it works

How do you turn Spanish speech into a Portuguese transcript?

To translate Spanish audio to Portuguese, drop the recording here. The page is fixed to Spanish speech, so nothing is guessed; the Spanish is transcribed in short pieces, then translated a batch of lines at a time, and every line keeps the moment it was said.

  1. 1

    Drop in the recording

A sales call, a class, a family voice note: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or another audio file.

  2. 2

    Transcribed, then translated

Spanish text first, Portuguese after it. Each recording can be up to 30 minutes long.

  3. 3

    Save the Portuguese

Copy it or download TXT or Word; the Spanish transcript is under Original.

Will the Portuguese be Brazilian or European?

There’s no setting for it. In our test, Spanish sentences came back with European vocabulary and spelling, such as “autocarro” and “Grande Prémio”, while the human translation beside them was Brazilian: “ônibus”, “Grande Prêmio”. For readers in Brazil, look over words like these.

Our English test lines, by contrast, came out in Brazilian Portuguese, with você. So read the first paragraphs of your transcript to see which standard you got, then fix the handful of words that differ.

Why does the Portuguese sometimes sound like Spanish?

Because the two languages are close enough that a word-for-word version can pass. Our test turned “la ciudad se volvió silencio” into “a cidade tornou-se silêncio”, and kept “uma posição contundente” where the human Portuguese said “uma presença forte”.

Look-alike words carry the most risk. “Expulsaron a Piquet Jr.” meant he was let go by his team; the Portuguese kept “expulsaram”, where the human translation reads “foi demitido”. When a Portuguese line mirrors the Spanish exactly, read it once as a Brazilian or Portuguese reader would.

How do times and numbers come out in Portuguese?

Largely as the Spanish had them. The test kept “8:46 a. m.”, though Portuguese would say 8:46 da manhã, and both units in “105 milhas por hora (165 km/h)”. Spanish and Portuguese share the decimal comma, so a figure like 6,5 needs no change.

What did our Spanish to Portuguese test show?

Ten sentences from a public test set, each with a professional Portuguese translation, came back clear and about the same length as the Spanish. The vocabulary leaned European and the wording stayed close to the Spanish.

FAQ

Questions about translating Spanish audio into Portuguese

Is the Spanish to Portuguese audio translator free?

Yes. You can translate 3 recordings a day of up to 30 minutes each, without an account; the Portuguese, the Spanish and the downloads are all included.

Can I choose Brazilian Portuguese?

Not on this page: there is one Portuguese, with no regional option. Our Spanish test sentences came back with European vocabulary, so if you write for Brazil, check words such as autocarro (ônibus) and bilhetes (ingressos).

Can I get the result as a Word file?

Yes. The document is headed with the recording’s length and “Translated: Spanish → Portuguese”, then the Portuguese paragraphs with their times, which you can switch off.

What if the recording mixes Spanish and Portuguese?

Here everything is transcribed as Spanish, which a Portuguese speaker would not want. For a mixed conversation, use the main audio translator and leave the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does it say who is talking?

No. The Portuguese transcript has times but no speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.

Does NoteOwl keep my recording?

No. The browser sends short pieces of the sound to a cloud AI transcription service and the Spanish text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards it after answering, and nothing is stored by NoteOwl.
