How it works
How do you add Portuguese subtitles to a Spanish video?
To translate a Spanish video to Portuguese, drop the file on this page. The Spanish is transcribed, each line is translated into Portuguese, and the Portuguese comes back as subtitles set to the Spanish timing. Read them through, then download the SRT.

Drop in the video
Any MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, 3GP or WebM with Spanish speech. Only its sound is read.
- 2

Up to 30 minutes of each video is transcribed in Spanish and translated.
- 3
Download and publish
Portuguese SRT or VTT; switch to Original for the Spanish file.
Will the Portuguese suit viewers in Brazil?
Check a few words first. From Spanish, our test lines came out in European Portuguese: “autocarro” where Brazil says “ônibus”, “Grande Prémio” where Brazil writes “Grande Prêmio”. For a Brazilian audience, search the SRT for words like these.
From English, the same route wrote Brazilian Portuguese, with você; from Spanish, our ten lines leaned towards Portugal’s spelling and words. Either way, the downloaded file is worth a quick pass for the country you publish in.
- El autobús iba al Six Flags St. Louis
- Portuguese subtitleO autocarro ia para o Six Flags St. Louis
- Human, BrazilO ônibus da banda estava seguindo para o Six Flags St. Louis
- el Gran Premio de Hungría
- Portuguese subtitleo Grande Prémio da Hungria
- Human, Brazilo Grande Prêmio da Hungria
| Spanish | Portuguese subtitle | Human, Brazil |
|---|---|---|
| El autobús iba al Six Flags St. Louis | O autocarro ia para o Six Flags St. Louis | O ônibus da banda estava seguindo para o Six Flags St. Louis |
| el Gran Premio de Hungría | o Grande Prémio da Hungria | o Grande Prêmio da Hungria |
Why do some Portuguese lines sound like Spanish?
Because the two languages are close and the translation sometimes stays too close. “La ciudad se volvió silencio” became “a cidade tornou-se silêncio”, where a Portuguese writer would say “um silêncio tomou conta da cidade”, and “posición contundente” stayed “posição contundente”.
Lines like these are understood, but a native viewer notices them. Reading the Portuguese once with the video playing catches most of them.
Do Portuguese subtitles fit the same space?
Yes, with a little to spare: ten Spanish test sentences came to 1,062 characters, the Portuguese to 1,032. Subtitles hold 2 lines of up to 42 characters, such as “A empresa tem como objetivo diversificar / as suas fontes de rendimento e ganhar”.
Which Portuguese do you pick on YouTube?
The one your edited file matches. YouTube Studio lists Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal) separately: add the language under Subtitles, upload the SRT with timing, and viewers find it in the subtitle menu.
Making videos for Spanish and Portuguese speakers?
NoteOwl understands Spanish and Portuguese on your Mac. It imports MP4 videos, transcribes them with unlimited transcription and writes SRT subtitles with each speaker’s name. For Spanish subtitles you already have, the subtitle translator keeps their timing.
FAQ
Questions about Portuguese subtitles for Spanish videos
Is the Spanish to Portuguese video translator free?
Yes. You can subtitle 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, without signing up, and download every file it makes.
Are times written the Portuguese way?
Not always. In our test the Spanish “8:46 a. m.” stayed “8:46 a. m.”, where Portuguese writes “8:46 da manhã” or “8h46”. Search the SRT for “a. m.” and “p. m.” before you publish.
Does it make a Portuguese audio track?
No. It writes Portuguese subtitles and leaves your video exactly as it was. Upload the SRT as a subtitle track, or burn it in with an editor.
Can I keep Spanish subtitles on the video as well?
Yes. Switch to Original and download the Spanish SRT; it covers the same speech. Upload both, and Spanish and Portuguese viewers each choose their own.
Is the video sent anywhere?
Only its sound, in short pieces, to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Spanish text to a cloud AI translation service. Both discard what they receive. The picture stays on your device and NoteOwl keeps nothing.
