How it works

How do you translate a Tagalog recording into English?

To translate Tagalog audio to English, drop the recording on this page. It is transcribed as Tagalog in short pieces, then each line is put into English with its time. Read the English, and open Original to see exactly what was said in Tagalog.

  1. 1

    Add the recording

A voice message saved as a file, an interview, a homily or a call: MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG.

  2. 2

    Tagalog, then English

Transcribed in Tagalog, then translated, for the first 30 minutes of each file.

  3. 3

    Read or download

Copy the English or save text or Word; the Tagalog transcript downloads separately.

Why read Tagalog to English translations closely?

Because Tagalog verbs say whether something is finished, ongoing or about to happen, and English must turn that into a tense. In our test, that is where the English most needed a second look. Check lines about deadlines, results and decisions against the Tagalog.

What should you check in the English transcript?

Years and figures first. Numbers are where Tagalog transcription slips most: in our test, a spoken 1966 was written as 1166 before any translating. A misheard number or word is translated as misheard, so compare key figures with the recording.

Does it cope with Taglish?

Yes, for Tagalog with English mixed in. English words said inside Tagalog are usually written in English spelling (Schengen Visa, Milky Way) and pass straight into the English. A recording that switches to whole English stretches suits the main audio translator on Detect automatically.

How does Tagalog speech read in English?

Clearly, for the most part: speech in Tagalog came out good in English in our test. Times and pronouns are put the English way, as these test lines show.

Siya and kaniya mean he or she, his or her, so the English has to choose; the test chose “his” where the sentence was about a man. When a line is about a woman, check the pronoun.

Eksaktong 8:46 n.u. ay nabalot sa katahimikan ang siyudad…
EnglishAt exactly 8:46 a.m., the city was enveloped in silence…
…pagkatapos ma-crash ang kaniyang sasakyan…
English…after his car crashed…

FAQ

Questions about translating Tagalog audio into English

Is the Tagalog to English audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, with no account. The English, the Tagalog transcript and every download come with it.

Does it work for Filipino recordings?

Yes. Filipino is based on Tagalog, so recordings in Filipino from anywhere in the Philippines go through this page.

Can I translate a voice message from a chat app?

Yes, once it is saved as an audio file on your phone or computer. Drop that file here, and a short message is back in English in moments.

Can I see the Tagalog too?

Yes. Switch the result to Original for the Tagalog transcript, with the same times as the English, and save it as text or SRT.

Does it label the speakers?

No. The English has the words and times without names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker in the transcripts it makes.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not as a file. Short pieces of the sound go from your browser to a cloud AI transcription service, then the Tagalog text to a cloud AI translation service; each discards what it gets, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
