How it works
How do you transcribe a Google Meet recording?
Open the Google Meet folder in the organizer’s Google Drive, download the meeting’s recording, then drop that file on the converter. Your browser reads its sound in short stretches, and the transcript builds up on the page, timed paragraph by paragraph.
- 1
Open the Google Meet folder
Recordings go to the organizer’s Google Drive, into a Google Meet folder with one sub-folder per meeting. The link also comes by email and appears on the Calendar event.
- 2
Download the recording
Select the file in Drive and choose More → Download. It works even while Drive still says “Still processing”.
- 3
Drop it on the converter
The first 30 minutes of each recording are transcribed, with a time on each paragraph to copy or save.
Where do Google Meet recordings go?
Into the meeting organizer’s Google Drive, inside a folder named Google Meet, with a sub-folder for each meeting. Google emails the link to the organizer and to whoever started recording, and adds it to the Calendar event.
Looking for an older recording? Those were kept in a folder called Meet Recordings. From July 2026 Google renames it Legacy Meet Recordings and moves it inside the Google Meet folder, so the files are still there, one level down.
Who can record a Google Meet call?
Only accounts on a plan that includes recording: several Google Workspace editions, and Google One plans with 2 TB of storage or more. In the meeting itself, the host can record, and so can co-hosts or, when host management is off, colleagues from the host’s organization.

Can you download a Google Meet recording someone shared with you?
Inside the organizer’s organization, usually yes: since April 30, 2026, colleagues with view or comment access to a new Meet recording can download and copy it. A Workspace admin can still switch that off. If there’s no Download option, ask the organizer for the file.
Doesn’t Google Meet make its own transcript?
Only when someone switched on Transcripts during the call, on an edition that has them, in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish. The transcript then sits beside the recording in the Google Meet folder. When nobody did, the recording is the only record of what was said.
Transcripts were off
Download the recording and drop it here; the converter writes the transcript from its sound.
The call was in another language
The converter detects the language itself, so a meeting held in Dutch or Hindi comes back as text too.
You want a different file
Take the result as a Word document, a text file, or SRT and VTT subtitles for the video.
Want Google Meet calls transcribed on your Mac, with no bot?
NoteOwl records Google Meet on your Mac in whichever browser you use, and nothing joins the call. As soon as the call ends it writes the transcript with speakers labelled, unlimited, using on-device AI models, even offline.
FAQ
Questions about transcribing Google Meet recordings
Is this Google Meet transcription free?
Yes. You can transcribe 3 Google Meet recordings a day, up to 30 minutes each, without an account and without signing in to Google. The Word, text and subtitle downloads cost nothing either.
Can I paste the Google Drive link instead of the file?
No. The converter works on the recording itself, not on a link. Open the link, select the file in Google Drive, choose More then Download, and drop the downloaded file on the page.
Does my Meet recording get uploaded somewhere?
No. The video stays on your computer. Your browser takes out its sound and sends it in short pieces, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that returns the words and discards each piece. NoteOwl keeps neither the recording nor the text.
Will the transcript say which person was speaking?
No. You get one timed transcript without names. To mark who spoke, add each person’s initials where their turn starts, checking against the recording at that time. NoteOwl on a Mac labels the speakers for you.
What if the Google Meet call lasted more than 30 minutes?
Meet can record up to 8 hours, but the converter transcribes the first 30 minutes of a file and tells you so above the transcript. Split a longer recording into parts, or record your calls with NoteOwl on a Mac, which has no length limit.
Can I record a Google Meet call on an iPhone?
Not in Meet: Google says recording works only on a computer or an Android device. You can still transcribe one on an iPhone. Download the recording from Google Drive to the phone, then choose that file on this page.
