How it works
How do you transcribe a Webex recording?
Get the MP4 first: download a cloud recording from User Hub, or open the folder where Webex saved a local one. Drop the file on the converter, and its sound is transcribed in short pieces while you watch.
- 1
Find the recording
Hosts sign in to User Hub and open Recordings. Local recordings sit in your Home folder on a Mac, or Documents on Windows.
- 2
Download the MP4
Open a cloud recording in the Webex player and select Download. Attendees use the link the host emailed them.
- 3
Drop it here
Up to 30 minutes of each MP4 are transcribed, with times, ready to copy or download.
Where do Webex recordings end up?
A cloud recording waits in User Hub, under Recordings. A local recording is an MP4 on the computer that made it: by default in your Home folder on a Mac, or in Documents on Windows, unless you picked another folder.

Why does a Webex local recording have no sound?
Because the audio came over the phone. A recording to your computer includes sound only when you joined with Computer audio; with Call me or Call in, Webex doesn’t record the audio, and the converter will find nothing to transcribe.
Next time, join with Computer audio before you press Record. Recordings to your computer also leave out the chat, the participant list and any shared files, so the MP4 holds just the picture and sound.
How long until a Webex cloud recording is ready?
Up to 24 hours, depending on the file’s size and your bandwidth. Webex emails the host when it’s ready, and the meeting shows a Recording label in User Hub. Until then there’s nothing to download.
For meetings that run for hours, Webex suggests several shorter recordings instead of one. That suits the converter too: it transcribes up to 30 minutes of each file, so shorter parts can each be done in full.
Doesn’t Webex transcribe recordings itself?
Sometimes. A Webex site administrator can switch on automatic transcription for MP4 cloud recordings, and the transcript then appears in a panel beside the player. Webex Free has no recording transcripts, and recordings to your computer never carry one.
Want your Webex meetings transcribed on your Mac?
NoteOwl records Webex calls on your Mac from your microphone and the Mac’s own audio, so no bot joins the meeting. When the meeting ends, it writes the transcript with each speaker labelled, unlimited, on your Mac.
FAQ
Questions about transcribing Webex recordings
Is this Webex transcription free?
Yes, with no account. Each day you can transcribe 3 Webex recordings, up to 30 minutes of each, and download the result as text, a Word document or subtitles.
Can an attendee get the Webex recording?
Only through the host. Webex keeps cloud recordings in the host’s User Hub, and attendees play or download them from the link the host emails. Even when a cohost pressed Record, the host owns the recording, so ask the host.
Is the Webex MP4 uploaded?
No. The MP4 stays where it is. Your browser lifts out its sound and sends only short audio pieces, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each and deletes it. The picture is never sent, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
Does the transcript name the speakers in the Webex meeting?
No. The converter gives you one transcript with times and no names. Use the times to mark each speaker by hand, or record meetings with NoteOwl on a Mac, which labels who said what.
What happens with a Webex recording over 30 minutes?
The converter transcribes its first 30 minutes and says so above the transcript. Trim the MP4 into parts to do the rest, or record future meetings with NoteOwl on a Mac, which has no length limit.
What about old Webex ARF recordings?
Webex once saved recordings in its Advanced Recording Format, ARF. Webex converts those to MP4 only on Windows; it says recordings can’t be converted on a Mac. Once you have the MP4, drop it here.
