Slack huddle transcription, and clips to text
Slack huddle transcription needs the conversation as a sound file, and Slack doesn’t record huddles. Drop in a clip or any recording shared in Slack, and the converter writes what was said with a time on each paragraph.

Most of your talking happens in huddles? NoteOwl records each huddle on your Mac, with no bot joining, and writes the transcript there, unlimited, with speakers labelled.
How it works
How do you transcribe a Slack huddle?
Since a huddle leaves no recording, start from whatever sound you have: a clip, or an audio or video file someone posted. Download it from the Slack desktop app and drop it on the converter, which writes the transcript with times.
- 1
Find the file in Slack
A clip, a voice recording or a video in a channel or DM. A live huddle itself leaves no file behind.
- 2
Download it on desktop
Find the file and click its download icon. Slack’s mobile apps download images only.
- 3
Drop it here
The converter transcribes up to 30 minutes of each file and times every paragraph.
Can you record a Slack huddle?
Not in Slack. Its help pages offer no way to record a huddle. When a huddle ends, Slack keeps the messages, links and files shared in its thread, while live captions aren’t saved at all, and no audio is kept.
Two things come close inside Slack: AI huddle notes on paid subscriptions, which include a transcript, and clips, which are short recordings you make on purpose. Both are below.
What do Slack’s AI huddle notes include?
On a paid subscription, any member in the huddle, though not a guest, can turn on AI notes. Afterwards a notes canvas lands in the huddle thread with who took part, topics, action items and a transcript, readable by everyone in that channel or DM.

How do you transcribe a Slack clip?
Slack can do it in place: click the Generate transcript icon when you post a clip. To keep a clip, or any audio or video someone shared, as a Word document, text or subtitles, download it in the Slack desktop app and drop it here.
Clips run up to five minutes on every Slack subscription, so a clip always fits well within the converter’s limit.
What do teams do with a huddle transcript?
Huddles are where quick decisions happen, and they vanish just as quickly. A transcript turns one into something the rest of the channel can read later.
Post the decision
Paste the two lines that settled it into the channel, so nobody has to ask again.
Pull out the to-dos
Search the text for “I’ll” and “can you” to list who agreed to what.
Catch up the time zones
Teammates who were asleep read the transcript instead of a summary from memory.
Want Slack huddles transcribed on your Mac?
NoteOwl records Slack huddles on your Mac from your microphone and the Mac’s own audio, so it works on any Slack plan and nothing joins the huddle. When it ends, NoteOwl writes the transcript with each speaker labelled, unlimited, using on-device AI models.
FAQ
Questions about transcribing Slack huddles
Is this Slack huddle transcription free?
Yes. No account is needed, and you can transcribe 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes each, then copy the text or download Word, text or subtitle files.
Can a free Slack workspace get a huddle transcript?
Not from Slack: AI huddle notes, which carry the transcript, are on paid subscriptions only. On any plan, NoteOwl on a Mac can record the huddle itself and write the transcript when it ends.
Are my Slack files uploaded when I transcribe them?
No. The file you downloaded from Slack stays on your computer. Your browser sends only short pieces of its sound, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes each one and lets it go. NoteOwl keeps no audio and no text.
Will the transcript show who spoke in the huddle?
No. The converter writes a single timed transcript with no names in it. Slack’s AI notes list who took part, and NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker line by line.
What if the recording is longer than 30 minutes?
Only the first 30 minutes are transcribed, and the page says so above the text. Cut the file into parts for the rest. A Slack clip, at five minutes at most, never hits that limit.
Does NoteOwl work with huddles in a browser?
Yes. Slack runs huddles in its desktop app and in Chrome and Firefox, and NoteOwl records from your Mac’s own audio, so it captures the huddle whichever one you use.
