WhatsApp call transcription
WhatsApp call transcription starts with a recording, and WhatsApp doesn’t record calls. Drop in a recording you already have, or a voice note from the chat, and the converter writes the words with a time on each paragraph.

- Any call recording or voice note

MP4, M4A, MOV, WebM, MKV, MP3 or WAV. Up to 30 minutes of each file, 3 free files a day. The language is detected automatically.
Taking WhatsApp calls on your Mac? NoteOwl records them there with nothing joining the call and writes the transcript on your Mac, unlimited, labelling both sides.
How it works
How do you transcribe a WhatsApp call?
Because WhatsApp keeps no recording, you need one made outside it: the call recorded on the computer you took it on, or a voice note sent in the chat. Drop that file on the converter, and the words come back in timed paragraphs.
- 1
Have a recording
A call recorded on your Mac, or a voice note from the chat. WhatsApp itself saves neither calls nor screen shares.
- 2
Drop it here
Audio or video, the converter only uses the sound.
- 3
Copy or save the text
Up to 30 minutes of each file are transcribed. Keep the text, or download Word, plain text or subtitles.
Can WhatsApp record a call?
No. WhatsApp’s Help Center covers making, switching, transferring and screen-sharing calls, and none of it records one; WhatsApp even notes that screen sharing is never recorded. When a WhatsApp call ends, there’s no recording of it to download.
To have a WhatsApp call in writing, it has to be recorded as it happens, on the device you take it on. On a Mac that’s straightforward, because WhatsApp calls work there in its own app and in the browser.
Can you take WhatsApp calls on a Mac?
Yes. WhatsApp for Mac makes voice and video calls, and WhatsApp Web calling works on macOS in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, though it’s still rolling out gradually. A call on your Mac is one NoteOwl can record and transcribe.

What about WhatsApp voice notes?
Those are recordings already. WhatsApp can transcribe voice messages itself, but only on certain devices. For the rest, or for a voice note you want as a document, get the audio file and drop it here or on the voice message converter.
Why would you want a WhatsApp call in writing?
Because WhatsApp is where a lot of work and family business gets settled by voice, and none of it is written down. A transcript keeps the details that a call alone loses.
An interview abroad
Quote a source accurately after a call across time zones.
A supplier or client call
Keep the quantities, prices and dates you agreed, word for word.
A family call
Write down the plan everyone agreed to, for the people who weren’t on it.
Want WhatsApp calls transcribed on your Mac?
NoteOwl records calls in any app on your Mac, WhatsApp included, from your microphone and the Mac’s own audio, with nothing added to the call. When it ends, NoteOwl writes the transcript with you and the other side labelled, unlimited, on-device.
FAQ
Questions about transcribing WhatsApp calls
Is this WhatsApp call transcription free?
Yes. There’s no account and no phone number to give: transcribe 3 recordings a day, up to 30 minutes of each, and download the text as Word, plain text or subtitles.
Is there a way to record WhatsApp calls without a bot?
On a Mac, yes. Take the call in WhatsApp for Mac or WhatsApp Web, and NoteOwl records it from the Mac’s audio and your microphone, then writes the transcript there. Nothing joins the call.
Is my recording uploaded when I transcribe it?
No. Your recording stays on your device. The browser sends only short pieces of its sound, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes each piece and discards it. NoteOwl stores no audio and no text.
Will the transcript show which of us was speaking?
No. The converter returns the call as one timed transcript without names. Add them yourself at each change of speaker, or record calls with NoteOwl on a Mac, which labels you and the other person.
Can it transcribe a WhatsApp video call?
Yes, from a recording of it. Only the sound is used, so a video recording gives the same transcript as an audio one. WhatsApp itself won’t have saved the call.
What if the call recording runs past 30 minutes?
The converter transcribes the first 30 minutes and says so above the transcript. Split the file to get the rest, or record calls with NoteOwl on a Mac, which has no length limit.
