Danish subtitle generator
This Danish subtitle generator writes undertekster for a video spoken in Danish: æ, ø and å in place, compounds such as antiregimeprotester never split, two lines at most and every subtitle timed to the speaker, as SRT or VTT.

How it works
How do you put Danish subtitles on a video?
Drag the video onto the page. Its sound is transcribed in Danish in short sections and laid out as undertekster that start when the words are said, one or two lines each. Read them through in the preview, then save the SRT or VTT.
- 1
Choose the video
A forelæsning, a vlog, a company film or an interview, as a video file or just the sound.
- 2
Check the undertekster
Each subtitle shows its number, start and end time and lines. The first 30 minutes of a long video are subtitled.

Save it
SRT for YouTube or an editor such as DaVinci Resolve, VTT for a web player.
Why set the subtitles to Danish?
Because Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are close relatives, and a short stretch whose language is guessed can come back in a neighbour’s spelling. Fixed to Danish, every subtitle is written in Danish, from the first line to the last.
Where people switch to English for long passages, as in an international meeting, the main subtitle generator is the right tool: it decides the language of each passage by itself.
Where do Danish subtitle lines break?
At commas, where a comma falls in a sensible place, and otherwise between phrases, never inside a word. Our 40 Danish test clips held 59 commas, and 14 of 80 two-line subtitles broke straight after one.
Long compounds such as “antiregimeprotester” or “vicepremierminister” stay whole, since a line breaks only at a space.

What should you check in Danish subtitles?
Apostrophes in names. Our test wrote the genitive the English way, “Singapore's”, twice, where Danish adds the s without an apostrophe: “Singapores”. Names are worth reading closely in the preview for that reason.
Percentages came back without a space (“30%”) and a range with a hyphen (“1-3”); leave them, or match your house style when you edit the file.
How do Danish subtitles show two speakers?
With a hyphen and no space at the start of each speaker’s line, as in “-Nej?” over “-Nej!”, following Netflix’s Danish style guide. The web generator writes the words alone, so add the hyphens where two voices share a subtitle.
That guide shares this page’s limits, 42 characters a line and 17 a second, and asks for a condensed style in translation. In Denmark, as across the Nordic countries, films and series for adults are subtitled and usually only children’s programmes are dubbed.
Danish subtitles with speaker names, made on a Mac?
Danish is among the languages NoteOwl understands on a Mac. It transcribes Danish recordings there with unlimited transcription, keeps the speakers apart and saves SRT subtitles with their names. For a Danish transcript rather than subtitles, use Danish audio to text.
FAQ
Danish undertekster: questions
Is the Danish subtitle generator free?
Yes. Make undertekster for 3 Danish videos a day, 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark; every download format is included.
Can it make Danish subtitles for an English video?
No. It writes down Danish speech and never translates. Make English subtitles for an English video first, then translate the text of each subtitle and keep its numbers and times.
Will æ, ø and å look right on YouTube?
Yes, as long as the file stays UTF-8, the encoding it is saved in. If you correct a word, save the file as UTF-8 again so the Danish letters stay intact.
Does it work for a Norwegian or Swedish speaker?
Everything on this page is written as Danish. For a video in Norwegian or Swedish, use that language’s page, or the main generator if the video mixes several languages.
Is my video kept by NoteOwl?
No. The video stays on your device, where your browser reads it. Short pieces of its sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each one, and nothing is stored.
