How it works

How do you transcribe Danish audio?

Drop the recording on the page. It is divided at pauses into short pieces, each transcribed as Danish, and paragraphs appear with their start times as they are ready. When it’s done, copy the Danish transcript or save it as a file.

  1. 1

    Choose a file

A talebesked from Messenger, a lecture recorded on your phone, an M4A interview or the sound of an MP4.

  2. 2

    Let it write

Paragraphs show their start time. The converter transcribes up to 30 minutes from each file.

Copy the text, or download TXT, Word, SRT or VTT.

Does it write æ, ø and å?

Yes. Our Danish test transcript used æ, ø and å throughout, in words such as “søers”, “værktøjer” and “skæringspunktet”, and gave every sentence its capital letter and full stop. Quotation marks and brackets were left out.

Why does a Danish transcript need a careful read?

Because spoken Danish softens and swallows consonants that the spelling keeps. In our test the soft d in “lade som om” came back as “lave som om”, and “hanner” and “hunner” (males and females) became “hænder” and “hunder”.

Most of these are real Danish words, so a spell-checker lets them through. Read the transcript with the audio for anything you plan to quote or send.

  • Soft consonants

“Sveller” became “Svelder”, “skelne” became “skælde”, “kobber” became “kover”.

  • Vowels

“Månen” turned into “Munden”, and “løj” into “løg”.

  • Whole clauses

“Mendoza blev skudt ned” came back as “men Dose er pludselig nået”.

How are numbers and abbreviations written?

Counts usually become digits, ordinals get a full stop, and the % sign replaces “procent”. Some abbreviations were spelled out and others kept: “f.v.t.” came back as “før vores tid”, while “dvs.” stayed short.

Also check the genitive: the transcript wrote “Singapore’s” with an English apostrophe, where Danish writes Singapores.

“en til tre … tredive”
In the transcript“1-3 … 30”
“tredive procent”
In the transcriptThe figure with the % sign
“det tredje århundrede”
In the transcript“det 3. århundrede”
“de syv vidundere”
In the transcript“syv”, kept in words

Why set the converter to Danish?

Because Norwegian and Swedish are close enough that a short Danish piece can be mistaken for either when the language is guessed. Fixed to Danish, every piece is written in Danish spelling, with æ and ø where Swedish would use ä and ö.

Our tests used standard Danish read aloud. Jutlandic, Funen or Bornholm dialect differs a good deal from the standard, so try a short clip first. For recordings that switch to English for long stretches, use the main audio to text converter, which detects each piece’s language.

FAQ

Questions about Danish audio to text

Is the Danish converter free?

Yes. It transcribes 3 Danish recordings a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and every download included.

Will Norwegian or Swedish speakers be transcribed?

Everything on this page is written as Danish. For a recording in Norwegian or Swedish, use NoteOwl’s converter set to that language, or the main converter, which detects the language of each piece.

Is my Danish recording stored?

No. Short pieces of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards them. NoteOwl keeps no audio and no text.

Can I make Danish subtitles?

Yes. Download SRT or VTT when the transcript is finished; each subtitle has a start and end time, and æ, ø and å are kept.

How accurate is the Danish transcript?

Clear standard Danish comes back readable and mostly right. Soft and swallowed consonants are where it slips most, followed by names and the odd garbled clause, so check anything you will quote.
