How it works

How do you make Romanian subtitles for a video?

Drop the video on the page. Its sound is transcribed as Romanian in short pieces, and the words are laid out as subtitles of one or two lines that start when they are spoken. Look them over, then download SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Add your video

A vlog, a podcast episode on video, a course or an interview: MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, or the audio.

  2. 2

    Romanian subtitles

Each piece is written in Romanian with its diacritics, through the first 30 minutes of the video.

  3. 3

    Download

SRT for YouTube or a video editor, VTT for a web player, or plain text.

How are Romanian subtitles laid out?

In one or two lines of up to 42 characters, broken after a comma or between phrases. A subtitle appears with its first word and stays between 1 and 7 seconds, ending at a full stop, a comma or a pause.

Our 40 Romanian test sentences became 104 subtitles, most of them two lines of about 30 characters.

With ș and ț
Its two linesSuprafața lunii este / compusă din roci și praf.
With a date
Its two linesPe 15 august 1940, aliații / au invadat sudul Franței,
With a hyphenated verb
Its two linesluptându-se să ocupe tronul / din mărețul Palat de la Xi'an.

Will ș and ț display correctly in the subtitles?

In the file, yes: they are written with the comma below, the correct Romanian letters, and saved as UTF-8. If you burn subtitles into the picture, choose a font that has ș and ț. Older systems lacked them, which is how the cedilla look-alikes ş and ţ spread.

Why set the subtitle language to Romanian?

So the whole video is subtitled in Romanian. When the language is guessed, a short or muffled Romanian phrase can be mistaken for another Romance language, and that run of subtitles would be written in it. Set to Romanian, nothing is guessed.

For a video that moves between Romanian and English, the main subtitle generator is the better fit: it detects each stretch’s language on its own.

What should you check in Romanian subtitles?

Names and places, phrases that run together, and the odd subtitle with no diacritics at all. Read the preview through once with the sound on before you publish.

  • Places

“Ordinea de zi în Bali” came back as “ordinea de Zimbalii”. Names of places are worth a second look.

  • Diacritics

Two test sentences came back without any, such as “detinea … distincta”. A subtitle like that stands out when you skim.

  • Quotation marks

„” and « » were left out, around Operațiunea Dragoon for one. Add them back where a title or quote needs them.

FAQ

Questions about Romanian subtitles

Is the Romanian subtitle generator free?

Yes, with no account: 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, no watermark, and SRT, VTT and text downloads included.

Can it make English subtitles from Romanian speech?

No. It writes the Romanian that is spoken; it doesn’t translate. Translate the text of the SRT for English subtitles and keep its numbers and times as they are.

Can I correct the subtitles before uploading?

Yes. Open the SRT or VTT in any text editor, fix the word and save it as UTF-8, so ș and ț stay correct. Don’t touch the numbers, the times or the blank lines.

Where does my video go?

Nowhere: your browser opens it and takes out the sound on your device. Short pieces of that sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each and discards it. NoteOwl keeps no video and no subtitles.

Can the subtitles be burned into the video?

Not on this page, which makes a subtitle file. Import the SRT into a video editor to burn it in on export, with a font that includes the Romanian letters.

Do the subtitles include speaker names?

No. The web generator writes only what is said. NoteOwl on a Mac puts each speaker’s name at the start of their subtitles in the SRT files it saves.
