How it works
How do you translate English subtitles into Danish?
Upload the SRT or VTT; this page is set to Danish. Press Translate and the subtitle text is translated in batches, then set back at the original times. Read the Danish through once, then download the file.
- 1
Upload the file
English is detected by itself. For a Swedish, Norwegian or German file, choose its language under From.
- 2
Translate into Danish
Neighbouring subtitles travel together, so a sentence broken over two still reads properly in Danish.
- 3
Download the Danish
SRT, VTT or a bilingual SRT, named with da, as in Afsnit 1.da.srt.
Do Danish subtitles fit the same timing as English?
Yes. Danish came out about the same length as the English sentences in our test, so most subtitles fill much the same room. Every one keeps its original start and end time and is laid out again in two lines at most.
Lines aim for 42 characters, read at about 17 characters a second. A longer Danish subtitle gets two fuller lines, never a third line and never an extra subtitle.
How do Danish subtitles write numbers and times?
With a decimal comma and a full stop between thousands: “6,5 procent” and “$1.250”. Dates read “den 16. oktober 2026” and times “kl. 15:30”, though another test sentence wrote “kl. 8.46” with a full stop. Pick one style for the whole file.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- DanishPrisen steg med 6,5 procent til $1.250.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- DanishMødet finder sted den 16. oktober 2026 kl. 15:30.
- At exactly 8:46 a.m.
- DanishPræcis kl. 8.46

Why are there more commas in the Danish?
Because the translation puts a comma before clauses that start with at, der or hvor: “Vores læge sagde, at hun ville ringe tilbage i morgen.” Danish allows that comma or leaves it out, so if your house style drops it, remove it throughout.
Do the Danish subtitles say du?
Yes, du for one person, as Danish does, and jer for a group: “Tak til jer alle for at komme i dag.” A polite “sir” stayed English in “Sæt dig venligst ned, sir.” On screen, cut the “sir” if Danish viewers would find it odd.
English names of places and institutions can come back in Danish: in a longer test, “Obanazawa Post Office” became “Obanazawa posthus”. People’s names stay as your file spells them.
How good is translation into Danish?
Very good in our test: translation from English into Danish scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Give the file one read for names and numbers before it goes online.

FAQ
Questions about Danish subtitle translation
Is translating subtitles to Danish free?
Yes. 3 subtitle files a day can go into Danish free, each up to 30,000 characters of text, with no account.
Can I translate Swedish or Norwegian subtitles into Danish?
Yes. Choose Swedish or Norwegian under From and the subtitles go directly into Danish. Check part of the Danish before you publish, as you would with any translation.
Will the Danish subtitles stay in time with the video?
Yes. Each subtitle keeps the number and the start and end times it had in your file, so the Danish appears exactly when the original did.
Can I keep the original line above the Danish?
Yes. Choose the bilingual SRT: every subtitle shows your original line with the Danish beneath it, at the same time.
Are italics kept?
Italics around a whole subtitle are kept, and a speaker’s name written as “Name:” stays in front of the Danish line. Positions and styling in a VTT file are not carried over.
Does NoteOwl keep my subtitle file?
No. The browser reads the file, and only the subtitle text goes, in batches, to a cloud AI translation service that discards it after translating. NoteOwl stores nothing.
