How it works

How do you get Polish subtitles for a video?

Put the video on the page. Its audio is transcribed in Polish, a short section at a time, and turned into numbered subtitles that appear with the words. Scroll the preview to check them, then save the SRT or VTT.

  1. 1

    Pick the video

A wykład, a vlog, a webinar or a phone clip; the audio file alone works too.

  2. 2

    Check the napisy

Each subtitle is shown with its number, start, end and lines. The first 30 minutes of each video are subtitled.

  3. 3

    Save

SRT for YouTube and editing software, VTT for an online player.

Why use a generator set to Polish?

To keep every subtitle in Polish. When the language is guessed, a few unclear seconds can be written as Czech, Slovak or another close language, and viewers lose the thread. Set to Polish, the whole video is subtitled in Polish spelling.

Interviews that switch to English for long answers are better served by the main subtitle generator, which recognises the language of each part.

How much Polish fits in one subtitle?

Fewer words than in many languages. Polish words in our test averaged over six letters, so a 42-character line holds five or six of them; lines averaged about 32 characters, among the fullest we laid out. No word is ever split.

A 15-letter word
The subtitle’s linesoparcie się na nielicznych / nieszczęśliwych przypadkach dzieci,
A one-line subtitle
The subtitle’s linesDziś do jedynych owadów nieposiadających
A time
The subtitle’s linesZałogi straży pożarnej ostatecznie / ugasiły ogień przed godziną 23.35.

Which Polish abbreviations should you check?

Ones that end in a full stop, such as “w.” and “p.n.e.”. The generator keeps them inside the sentence, so in our test “Wielka piramida zbudowana w III w. p.n.e. jest jedną z wielu” ran on in one subtitle.

It reads fine on screen, but you can merge the two subtitles in a text editor if you prefer whole sentences. The century came back in Roman numerals, “III w.”, as Polish writes centuries.

What do Polish subtitling conventions ask for?

Netflix’s Polish style guide uses the same limits as this page, 42 characters a line and 17 a second, and writes times with a full stop, as our test did (“23.35”). It also asks for „ ” quotation marks and a hyphen with a space before each of two speakers.

The generator never adds speaker dashes, and our Polish test had no quotation marks to convert, so both are yours to add where you need them. On Polish television, by the way, foreign films are usually voiced over by a lektor rather than subtitled.

Want Polish subtitles that name the speakers?

NoteOwl understands Polish on your Mac: it transcribes Polish recordings there with unlimited transcription, separates the speakers and saves SRT subtitles with each person’s name, using on-device AI models. For a Polish transcript you can read and edit, go to Polish audio to text.

FAQ

Polish subtitles: your questions

Is the Polish subtitle generator free?

Yes. Subtitle up to 3 Polish videos a day, 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark. SRT, VTT and text are all yours to download.

Can it make Polish subtitles for a film in English?

No. It writes Polish speech down as Polish subtitles and doesn’t translate. For an English film, make English subtitles with the main generator, translate the lines of the SRT and keep the numbers and timings.

Will ł and ż show correctly on YouTube?

Yes. The SRT and VTT files are saved as UTF-8, which holds every Polish letter. If you edit one, save it in UTF-8 again rather than an older Windows encoding, or ł and ż can turn into stray symbols.

Does it mark who is speaking?

No. Each subtitle holds the spoken words only, with no names or dashes. NoteOwl on a Mac labels speakers and writes their names into the SRT files it saves.

Is the video uploaded to NoteOwl?

No. The browser opens the video on your device and only short pieces of its sound leave it, over a secure connection, for a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes and discards each one. Nothing is stored by NoteOwl.
