Polish speech to text on your Mac

NoteOwl does Polish speech to text on your Mac with on-device AI models, so nothing you say is sent anywhere to be transcribed. Dictate in Polish into any app, record a call or import a recording, and you get Polish text written with its own letters: ą, ę, ł, ś, ż and the rest.

Dictation and voice notes are free and unlimited. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries and chat come with Pro: $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Once its models are downloaded, NoteOwl works offline.

What does NoteOwl’s Polish transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 98.5% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:48

A short work call between Kasia and Michał. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. przy ceramice odpada, bierzemy tę droższą, bezpieczniejszą

In English: …that’s out for ceramics, so we’ll take the more expensive, safer one.

  2. zgoda. W takim razie do czwartku podpisze z nimi umowę i ustawie koszty wysyłki w sklepie. Dobrze, ja w tym czasie zrobię zdjęcia nowych kubków, a

In English: Agreed. In that case, by Thursday I’ll sign the contract with them and set up the shipping costs in the shop. Good, meanwhile I’ll take photos of the new mugs, and

  3. otwarcie sklepu dalej planujemy na pierwszego grudnia? Tak, nic się nie zmienia. Dobra, to chyba wszystko. Dzięki Michał

In English: are we still planning the shop opening for the first of December? Yes, nothing changes. Okay, I think that’s everything. Thanks, Michał

  4. Dzięki Naraża

In English: Thanks, see you! (NoteOwl heard “na razie”, see you, as Naraża.)

Lines copied from NoteOwl’s transcript exactly as it wrote them, mistakes included. The English beside each line is our translation for readers, not NoteOwl output.

How does NoteOwl write Polish?

In standard Polish spelling, adding commas, full stops and question marks as it goes. In the sample it wrote wysyłką, zdecydowałeś, droższą and bezpieczniejszą with every diacritic in place, and spelled Michał correctly each time.

Numbers came out as words, not digits: czterdzieści osiem (48 products), piętnaście złotych (15 złoty a parcel) and pierwszego grudnia (1 December). If a price list or an order needs figures, change them after you export.

What did NoteOwl get wrong in the Polish sample?

Four words out of about a hundred. It wrote podpisze and ustawie where the speaker said podpiszę and ustawię, ran “za paczkę” together as zapaczkę, and heard the closing “na razie” as Naraża. Apart from punctuation and capital letters, the rest matched the script.

The two verbs show a pattern worth knowing. A final ę often sounds like a plain e in everyday Polish, and NoteOwl wrote what it heard, so “I will sign” turned into “he will sign”. When you check a Polish transcript, read first-person future forms first.

Does Polish need its own setting?

No. NoteOwl hears that you are speaking Polish. Just make sure Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language says Auto-detect: that menu can pin only English, Hindi, Spanish, French or German, and on a Mac set to English it starts on English.

Left on English, NoteOwl decodes your dictation and meeting audio as English, which Polish speech is not. Files you import never look at that menu; NoteOwl works out their language every time, which is how this page’s sample was processed.

How do I get Polish names right in a transcript?

With Pro, add them to your vocabulary: what NoteOwl writes on one side, what you want on the other. A rule matches whole words only, so a rule for a surname never fires inside a longer word.

That matters in Polish, where names change their endings with case. A client called Wiśniewski turns up as Wiśniewskiego and Wiśniewskim too, and each is a different word to a rule, so add one for every form that comes out wrong.

Where is Polish transcription useful?

Wherever Polish is the working language: a supplier call from Poznań, a stand-up with a team split between Warsaw and Wrocław, an interview recorded for a thesis. Around 40 million people speak Polish, most of them in Poland, and many more work alongside them in the UK and Germany.

Is Polish speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Polish into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Polish transcription

Is Polish dictation free?

Yes, with no cap. Tap fn in any app, speak Polish, tap again, and the words type at your cursor; voice notes are free as well. Pro, a single $79 payment for one Mac, unlocks meetings, imports, summaries, chat and memory, and the 7-day trial inside the app needs no card.

Does Polish transcription work offline?

Yes, once the speech models are on your Mac. Your first Polish dictation on Auto-detect, and your first import, may fetch an extra part of the model, so do each once while online. From then on no connection is needed.

Does NoteOwl detect Polish automatically?

Imported files: always, whatever your settings. Dictation and meetings: yes, as long as the Spoken language menu reads Auto-detect rather than English.

Can I import a recording in Polish?

Yes, on Pro or the trial. Drag an m4a, mp3, wav or mp4 onto Transcripts, or click Import Recording. NoteOwl recognises Polish, writes the transcript with its diacritics and labels who spoke, without the file ever leaving your Mac.

Does it work for meetings held in Polish?

Yes, on Pro. It captures your microphone and your Mac’s sound, so nobody sees a bot in the call, whichever app hosts it. Afterwards you get the Polish transcript split by speaker, a summary and action items.

How accurate is NoteOwl in Polish?

98.5% of characters matched the script in the sample above, punctuation and spaces aside, with four words wrong. Try it on your own recordings during the trial.

About NoteOwl

NoteOwl is private AI meeting notes and memory for the Mac. It captures meetings without a bot joining the call, labels every speaker, writes summaries and action items, and builds a memory of every conversation that you can chat with — fully offline, because the speech recognition and the AI run on the Mac itself. Dictation into any app is free; Pro is a one-time purchase.
