How it works
How do you add Dutch subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Dutch, open the file here. The page pulls out the soundtrack, writes the English down, turns every line into Dutch and times each Dutch subtitle to the words being spoken. Then save the Dutch SRT next to your video.
- 1
Open the English video
An MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM file from your camera, editor or screen recorder. The picture stays on your computer.
- 2
Wait for the Dutch
Transcription, translation and timing run in one go, for videos of up to 30 minutes.
- 3
Save the subtitle file
Dutch SRT or VTT; the English subtitles, timed the same way, are under Original.
Will Dutch subtitles fit where the English ones were?
Yes, because they are laid out again in Dutch. Dutch ran about a tenth longer than English in our test, so the Dutch is cut into its own subtitles: at most 2 lines of about 42 characters, each on screen 1 to 7 seconds.
Each Dutch subtitle stays up long enough to read at about 17 characters a second. Because the cutting happens after translation, a stretch of speech can end up with a few more Dutch subtitles than English ones; every one still starts when its words are spoken.
How do prices, times and units look in Dutch subtitles?
Dutch style, mostly. “6.5 percent” became “6,5 procent”, “$1,250” became “$1.250”, and “3:30 p.m.” became “15:30 uur”. Dutch usually writes 15.30 uur, with a full stop, as the Dutch test sentences did, so change the colon if your viewers expect that.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- Dutch subtitleDe prijs is met 6,5 procent gestegen naar $1.250.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- Dutch subtitleDe vergadering is op 16 oktober 2026 om 15:30 uur.
- winds of 105 miles per hour (165 km/h)
- Dutch subtitle105 mijl per uur (165 km/u)

Do the subtitles follow Dutch punctuation and spelling?
Yes. Dutch puts no space before ! or ?, so “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “Wauw! Dat is geweldig!” Familiar place names take their Dutch form: in our test “Timbuktu” came back as “Timboektoe”.
Will Dutch viewers be addressed with je or u?
Mostly with je. Questions such as “Kun je…?” and fillers such as “Nou, je weet” came back informal, and only “sir” brought out u: “Gaat u zitten, meneer.” A formal corporate film may want u throughout.
How reliable is English to Dutch translation?
In our test, translation from English into Dutch scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Watch the video once with the Dutch subtitles on before you publish, mainly for names and numbers.
Publishing videos in English and Dutch?
On your Mac, NoteOwl understands Dutch as well as English. Import an MP4, and it transcribes the whole video with unlimited transcription and writes an SRT file that names each speaker. If English subtitles already exist, the subtitle translator turns them into Dutch with their timing untouched.
FAQ
Questions about Dutch subtitles for English videos
Is the English to Dutch video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and no watermark. Dutch SRT and VTT, the English subtitles and the Dutch text are all included.
Does it add a Dutch voice-over?
No. It makes Dutch subtitles only, and your video file is never changed. Upload the SRT beside the video, or burn the subtitles in with an editor.
How do I put the Dutch subtitles on YouTube?
In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, pick the video, add Dutch as a language and upload the SRT with timing. Viewers in the Netherlands and Belgium can then choose Dutch from the subtitle menu.
Are the subtitles for the Netherlands or for Flanders?
They are in standard written Dutch, with the spelling both share. A Flemish channel may want to swap a few everyday words for the ones its viewers use.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser takes the sound out of the video. Short pieces of it go to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service, each of which discards it. The picture is never sent.
Can I publish the English subtitles as well?
Yes. Switch the result to Original and download the English SRT, timed to the same speech. Offering both lets every viewer pick a language.
