How it works
How do you add Hindi subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Hindi, drop it on this page. The English speech is written down, sent straight into Hindi by a dedicated English to Indian languages route, and cut into Devanagari subtitles timed to the speaker. Download the Hindi SRT.
- 1
Drop the English video
A tutorial, a course, a product demo or a family video, as MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.
- 2
Hindi subtitles are made
Speech to English text, English to Hindi, Hindi to subtitles: up to 30 minutes of video.
- 3
Download the SRT
Hindi SRT or VTT, or English subtitles from Original.
How do Hindi subtitles handle a different word order?
By being cut after translation. Hindi puts the verb at the end, so a sentence can’t be split where the English one was. The Hindi is translated first and then divided into subtitles at its own pauses and sentence ends, timed to the speech.
Each subtitle has up to 2 lines of about 42 characters and stays up long enough to read at 17 characters a second. Hindi ran about the same length as English in our test translations.
What do Hindi subtitles look like on screen?
Devanagari, with the Hindi full stop । ending statements and exclamations kept: “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “वाह! यह अद्भुत है!”. Numbers use the digits 0 to 9, and times follow the 12-hour clock with words such as दोपहर (afternoon).
- Wow! That’s amazing!
- Hindi subtitleवाह! यह अद्भुत है!
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.

- Please sit down, sir.
- Hindi subtitleकृपया बैठ जाएँ, श्रीमान।

Why might a time look wrong in the Hindi subtitles?
Because our test wrote 3:30 p.m. as “दोपहर 3ः30”, with the Devanagari visarga ः where a colon should be. On screen the two look alike but aren’t the same character, so search the SRT for ः beside numbers and type a colon.
Will Hindi viewers be addressed as आप?
Yes. The respectful आप ran through our whole test, as in “क्या आप मुझे … भेज सकते हैं?”. That fits tutorials and courses. For a channel that talks to its viewers like friends, switch lines to तुम in the SRT.
In our test, translation from English into Hindi scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with.
