How it works
How do you add Estonian subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Estonian, drop the file on this page. The browser takes out the sound, the English speech is transcribed and translated, and the Estonian is cut into subtitles timed to the English. Download the SRT or VTT for your channel or player.
- 1
Choose the English video
MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. Only the sound is read.
- 2
Estonian subtitles are made
English speech becomes Estonian text, timed. Up to 30 minutes per video.
- 3
Download SRT or VTT
Original gives you the English subtitles with the same timing.
How much room do Estonian subtitles take on screen?
A little less than English. Estonian came out slightly shorter than English in our test, so subtitles sit comfortably within 2 lines of 42 characters, each on screen long enough to read at 17 characters a second.
A date such as “16. oktoobril” isn’t mistaken for the end of a sentence, so a subtitle isn’t cut there as if one had ended; the rules were adjusted after Estonian test subtitles split at such dates. Õ, ä, ö and ü each count as one character.
How are dates, times and amounts shown in Estonian?
“October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.” became “16. oktoobril 2026 kell 15:30”, the Estonian way. “6.5 percent” became “6,5 protsendi”, but “$1,250” stayed in English form with a case ending, “$1,250-ni”; Estonian viewers would more often read “1250 dollarini”.

- Estonian subtitleHind tõusis 6,5 protsendi võrra $1,250-ni.
- Can you send me the report before Friday?
- Estonian subtitleKas saad mulle raporti enne reedet saata?
- Wow! That’s amazing!
- Estonian subtitleVau! See on hämmastav!

Will viewers be addressed as sina or teie?
It varies by line. “Can you send me the report before Friday?” came back with sina, “Kas saad…”, while “Please sit down, sir” took the polite “Palun istuge, härra.” For a corporate or teaching video, switch sina forms to teie (“Kas saate…”) in the SRT.
What should you check before publishing the Estonian?
Tone and amounts first, then names. In our test, English into Estonian scored just under the dedicated translation system we compared it with, within the margin we set, so a quick read by an Estonian speaker is well spent on anything you publish widely.

FAQ
Estonian subtitles for English videos: questions
Is the English to Estonian video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes of each, with no account and no watermark. The Estonian SRT and VTT and the English subtitles are included.
Does it dub the video into Estonian?
No. It produces Estonian subtitles only; the English sound and your video file are left as they are.
How do I add the Estonian subtitles on YouTube?
In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, choose the video, add Estonian as a language and upload the SRT with timing. Viewers can then select Estonian in the player.
Will the Estonian subtitles line up with the English ones?
They follow the same speech, but the Estonian is split into subtitles along its own sentences, so it can have a subtitle more or fewer than the English.
Can I burn the Estonian subtitles into the picture?
Yes, in an editor that imports SRT, such as DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. This page never alters the video itself.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The browser takes the sound out on your device, sends short pieces of it to a cloud AI transcription service and the English text to a cloud AI translation service, and both discard it. The picture never leaves; NoteOwl keeps nothing.
