How it works

How do you make Hebrew subtitles for an English video?

To translate an English video to Hebrew, place it on this page. The English soundtrack is written out, rendered in Hebrew and timed as subtitles, each line opening with a right-to-left mark. Save the Hebrew SRT and attach it to the video.

  1. 1

    Place the English video

MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. Only its sound is used; the picture stays on your computer.

  2. 2

    Hebrew subtitles take shape

English speech, then Hebrew text, then timing, for videos up to 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Save Hebrew or English

Hebrew SRT or VTT, or the English subtitles from the Original view.

Will Hebrew subtitles show right to left in a player?

Yes. Every Hebrew line starts with an invisible right-to-left mark, so even a player that lays text out left to right puts the question marks and full stops on the side Hebrew readers expect.

On this page, too, each Hebrew subtitle is shown right to left, so you can read them through in the right direction before downloading.

Do Hebrew subtitles need less room than English?

Usually. Hebrew ran about a quarter shorter than English in our test translations, so it tends to fit with room to spare. Each subtitle holds up to 2 lines of about 42 characters, stays up at most 7 seconds and is paced for reading at 17 characters a second.

The Hebrew is cut into subtitles after translation, following its own sentences and the speaker’s pauses, so it needn’t match the English subtitles one for one.

Does the Hebrew speak to men, women or everyone?

To a man, by default. “Can you send me the report before Friday?” became “האם תוכל לשלוח לי את הדוח לפני יום שישי?”, the masculine form. For a video aimed at women, change it to תוכלי; for an audience as a whole, to the plural תוכלו.

How do numbers and dates look in Hebrew subtitles?

Familiar to Israeli viewers: a decimal point, a comma in thousands, a 24-hour clock, and a maqaf joining prefixes such as ב to a number. Exclamations keep their marks, as in “וואו! זה מדהים!”.

In our test, translation from English into Hebrew was level with the dedicated translation system we compared it with.

FAQ

Questions about Hebrew subtitles for English videos

Is the English to Hebrew video translator free?

Yes. Subtitle 3 videos a day in Hebrew, each up to 30 minutes long, with no account; nothing is stamped on the subtitles.

Does it dub the video in Hebrew?

No. It writes Hebrew subtitles; the English sound and the video file stay as they are.

How do I add Hebrew subtitles on YouTube?

Open the video in YouTube Studio, go to Subtitles, add Hebrew and upload the SRT as a file with timing. Hebrew then appears in the viewer’s subtitle menu.

Are the subtitles written with vowel points?

No. They use everyday Hebrew without niqqud, as most Hebrew subtitles do.

Can I get the English subtitles as well?

Yes. Open Original and save the English SRT; it is cut from the same speech, so both tracks can go up together.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser lifts the sound out of the video and sends it in short clips to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service. Each discards what it was given; the picture never leaves your computer.
