How it works
How do you add Russian subtitles to an English video?
To translate an English video to Russian, drop it on this page. Its sound is transcribed in English, each line is translated into Russian, and the Russian is laid out as subtitles at the moments the English is spoken. Then download the Russian SRT.
- 1
Drop in the English video
MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. Only the sound is taken out and used.
- 2
Russian subtitles are built
Transcribed, translated into Russian, timed. Up to 30 minutes of each video.
- 3
Download SRT or VTT
Or switch to Original for English subtitles with the same timing.
Do Russian subtitles fit in the time the English takes?
Yes. Russian ran a little longer than English in our test, so the Russian is cut into its own subtitles after translating: at most 2 lines of up to 42 characters, each on screen long enough to read at 17 characters a second.
“The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250” came back as a two-line subtitle: “Цена выросла на 6,5 процента” above “и составила 1250 долларов.” The layout avoids ending a line on a short word such as “в” or “на”, so it usually opens the next one.
Will Russian viewers be addressed as вы?
Yes. “Can you send me the report before Friday?” became “Можете прислать мне отчёт до пятницы?”, the polite plural. That is right for tutorials, product videos and talks; a casual vlog may want ты. “Sir” became “сэр”: “Садитесь, пожалуйста, сэр”.
Are numbers and dates shown the Russian way?
Yes: a decimal comma, the day before the month and the 24-hour clock. Four-digit sums are written without a space, “1250 долларов”, as Netflix’s Russian subtitle guide does below 10 000.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.

- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.

Will the subtitles write ё or е?
The translation writes ё: “отчёт”, not “отчет”. Netflix’s Russian subtitle guide keeps ё for names and words that could be misread, so if your channel follows that style, replace it with е in the downloaded file. Viewers read both without trouble.
Exclamations stay lively and keep Russian punctuation, with no space before the mark: “Wow! That’s amazing!” became “Вау! Это потрясающе!”.
How good are the Russian subtitles?
Good. In our test of fifty English sentences, translation into Russian scored above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. Play the video once with the subtitles on before publishing, mainly for names and terms.
Publishing videos in English and Russian?
NoteOwl understands Russian and English on your Mac: it imports your MP4 videos, transcribes them with unlimited transcription and saves SRT subtitles that name each speaker. If an English SRT exists already, run it through the subtitle translator instead: its times are kept to the millisecond.
FAQ
Questions about Russian subtitles for English videos
Is the English to Russian video translator free?
Yes, for 3 videos a day of up to 30 minutes each. Nothing to sign up for, nothing stamped on your video, and both the Russian and the English subtitle files to download.
Does it make a Russian voice-over?
No. It makes Russian subtitles only; your video and its English sound stay exactly as they were.
How do I add the Russian subtitles to YouTube?
In YouTube Studio, go to Subtitles, select the video, add Russian as a language and upload the SRT with timing. Viewers then pick Russian from the subtitle menu.
Can I make Ukrainian subtitles for the same video?
Yes. Open the English to Ukrainian page of this tool and drop the same video there; each language is a separate run.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The browser takes the sound out of the video on your device. Short pieces of it go to a cloud AI transcription service, then the English text to a cloud AI translation service, which both discard it. The picture stays with you.
Can I get the English subtitles as well?
Yes. Switch to Original and download the English SRT, timed the same way, so you can publish both languages.
