How it works
How do you add Catalan subtitles to a Spanish video?
To translate a Spanish video to Catalan, drop it on this page. The Spanish is transcribed, each line is translated into Catalan and the Catalan is laid out as subtitles in step with the Spanish speech. Download the Catalan SRT and add it to the video.

The Catalan SRT or VTT, and the Spanish subtitles from Original.
Does it read as Catalan, not Spanish in disguise?
Mostly. The translation uses Catalan’s own forms: “fue derrotado” became “va ser derrotat”, the Catalan past, and “hace poco” became “fa poc”. A few lines keep a Spanish shape, such as “l’avió primer” where Catalan says “el primer avió”.
Another example: “una posición contundente” stayed “una posició contundent”, where a Catalan writer said “la posició de Skype és forta”. Reading the subtitles once with the video playing catches lines like these.
- el primer avión
- Catalan subtitlel’avió primer
- Human Catalanel primer avió
- a las 8:46 a. m.
- Catalan subtitlea les 8:46 a. m.
- Human Catalana les 8:46 del matí
- una posición contundente
- Catalan subtitleuna posició contundent
- Human Catalanla posició de Skype és forta
| Spanish | Catalan subtitle | Human Catalan |
|---|---|---|
| el primer avión | l’avió primer | el primer avió |
| a las 8:46 a. m. | a les 8:46 a. m. | a les 8:46 del matí |
| una posición contundente | una posició contundent | la posició de Skype és forta |
How are times written in Catalan subtitles?
Check them. The Spanish “a. m.” stayed in our test: “a les 8:46 a. m.”, where Catalan says “a les 8:46 del matí”. From English, the same route wrote “a les 15:30 h”. Search the SRT for “a. m.” and “p. m.”.
Will Catalan subtitles fit where Spanish ones would?
Yes. Ten Spanish test sentences totalled 1,062 characters and their Catalan 1,055. Each subtitle holds 2 lines of up to 42 characters, like “L’empresa té com a objectiu diversificar / les seves fonts d’ingressos i guanyar”, read at 17 characters a second.
Should you publish the Spanish subtitles too?
Usually, yes. Many viewers read both languages and choose one. YouTube Studio lists Catalan as a subtitle language: add it, upload the Catalan SRT with timing, then add Spanish the same way with the file from Original.

FAQ
Questions about Catalan subtitles for Spanish videos
Is the Spanish to Catalan video translator free?
Yes. 3 videos a day, up to 30 minutes each, and no account. The Catalan subtitles, the Spanish ones and the plain text all download free.
Does it turn the Spanish voice into Catalan?
No. The page makes Catalan subtitles, not a Catalan voice-over, and never alters your video file.
Can I edit the Catalan before I publish?
Yes. The SRT is plain text: open it in any text editor, change the words and keep the numbers and times as they are. The subtitles will still line up with the speech.
Does it understand Spanish from any region?
The page listens for Spanish as one language, from Spain or Latin America. Our test recording was Latin American Spanish, and it was transcribed very cleanly before the Catalan was written.
Is my video sent to a server?
Only its sound, in short pieces, to a cloud AI transcription service; then the Spanish text goes to a cloud AI translation service. Each discards what it was sent. The picture stays on your device, and NoteOwl keeps nothing.
