What does NoteOwl’s Swedish transcript look like?

Here’s a sample recording, and NoteOwl’s transcript of it, unedited. On this sample NoteOwl matched 93.6% of the characters (punctuation and spacing aside).

The recording · 0:46

A short work call between Elin and Oskar. NoteOwl detected the language by itself.

  1. Hey. Formgivarerna skickat tre förslag

In English: Hi! The designer has sent three proposals,

  2. och jag tycker att det gröna är klart bäst.

In English: and I think the green one is clearly the best.

  3. Ja, jag håller med. Det syns tydligt på hyllen. Då kör vi på det gröna. Bra, då behöver vi bara bestämma upplagan. Tryckeriet vill att vi

In English: Yes, I agree. It really stands out on the shelf. Then we go with the green one. Good, then we just need to decide the print run. The printer wants us to

  4. beställer minst tvåtusen posar. Tvåtusen går bra. Vi säljer ungefär femhundra i månaden. Då gör vi så. Jag beställer ett provtryck och

In English: order at least two thousand bags. Two thousand is fine. We sell about five hundred a month. Let’s do that. I’ll order a test print and

How does NoteOwl write Swedish?

With å, ä and ö, and with numbers written as one word. In the sample, håller, månaden, gröna and beställer kept their letters, and tvåtusen and femhundra came out as single words, the way Swedish writes them.

It was less sure of short, quick words. “Hur går det” came out as “Hur går du”, hyllan as “hyllen”, and påsar lost its ring to become “posar”. Near the end, “skickar det till dig senast på torsdag” came out as “skrickade tid dig senast på Torstad”.

Names are worth checking too: NoteOwl wrote Oskar as Oscar, both times. At 93.6% of characters, a Swedish transcript deserves a read-through before it goes anywhere.

How do you dictate in Swedish on a Mac?

Tap fn in any app, speak Swedish and tap fn again: the words type at your cursor. In Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language, choose Auto-detect, because Swedish isn’t one of the languages that menu can pin.

The setting starts on your Mac’s own language, so on a Mac set to English, switch it to Auto-detect before you dictate or record a meeting in Swedish. Recordings you import are always detected automatically, the way NoteOwl recognised the sample above.

Where is Swedish spoken, and what do people record in it?

Swedish is the first language of about 10 million people, in Sweden and in Finland, where it is an official language alongside Finnish. NoteOwl lists it as one language, without regional variants.

At work that means the möte and its protokoll, calls with customers and suppliers, and interviews. The sample is a small coffee roastery choosing a design and a print run for its bags, read in standard Swedish from Sweden.

The sample doesn’t show a Finland-Swedish accent, so if that is how you speak, try NoteOwl on a short recording of your own first.

How do you get the best Swedish transcripts?

Read it once, check the names, and fix the ones NoteOwl keeps getting wrong with custom vocabulary. In the sample, the decisions came through, the green design and two thousand bags, while short words and one name slipped.

A Vocabulary rule, part of NoteOwl Pro, fixes a name for good: a rule that replaces Oscar with Oskar would correct it in every transcript after. The same works for a word it keeps misspelling, such as posar to påsar. Rules are kept and applied on your Mac.

Is Swedish speech to text free in NoteOwl?

Yes, for dictation. Speaking Swedish into any app is free and unlimited, forever, like voice notes. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro.

NoteOwl Pro is $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app and no card. Everything runs on your Mac, with the same on-device AI models on both plans.

FAQ

Questions about Swedish transcription

Can NoteOwl transcribe Swedish offline?

Yes. NoteOwl turns Swedish speech into text on your Mac with on-device AI models, so after the one-time model download it works with no internet connection. Your recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac.

Does NoteOwl write å, ä and ö?

Yes. In NoteOwl’s transcript of the Swedish sample, å, ä and ö were right in words like håller, månaden and beställer. One word, påsar, came out as “posar”, so a quick read-through is worth it.

Can NoteOwl learn how Swedish names are spelled?

Yes, with custom vocabulary in NoteOwl Pro. In the sample it wrote Oskar as Oscar; a rule that replaces Oscar with Oskar would fix that in every transcript after. Rules are kept and applied on your Mac.

Is Swedish dictation free in NoteOwl?

Yes. Dictating Swedish into any app is free and unlimited, forever. Meetings, imported recordings, summaries, Chat and custom vocabulary are part of NoteOwl Pro, $79 once for one Mac, with a 7-day free trial in the app.

Do I have to tell NoteOwl I’m speaking Swedish?

Not for imported recordings: NoteOwl detects their language by itself. For dictation and meetings, set Settings → Auto-Context → Spoken language to Auto-detect, since Swedish isn’t one of the languages that menu can pin.
