This Swedish subtitle generator writes undertexter for a video spoken in Swedish: å, ä and ö in place, long compounds kept whole, each subtitle at most two lines and timed to the speaker, ready to save as SRT or VTT.

How it works

How do you put Swedish subtitles on a video?

Drop the video on the page. Its audio is transcribed in Swedish, section by section, and the text becomes numbered undertexter timed to the speech. Read them in the preview, then download an SRT for YouTube or a VTT for a web player.

  1. 1

    Choose the video

A föreläsning, a vlog, a company video or an interview, as a video file or just its sound.

  2. 2

    Check each undertext

Every subtitle shows its number, times and lines. The first 30 minutes of a longer video are subtitled.

  3. 3

    Save the file

SRT, VTT or plain text, named after your video.

Why set the subtitles to Swedish?

Because Swedish, Norwegian and Danish sound close, and a short stretch whose language is guessed may come back spelled as a neighbour. Set to Swedish, every subtitle is spelled as Swedish, start to finish.

If a speaker switches to English for whole passages, run the video through the main subtitle generator instead: it works out the language of every passage itself.

How do Swedish compounds fit on a line?

Whole. A line breaks only between words, so “fortplantningsceller” (20 letters) or “distriktsgemensamma” is never cut, and a top line can run to 42 characters to keep a phrase together. Our Swedish lines averaged about 31 characters.

A 19-letter word
The subtitle’s linesBussar avgår från den distriktsgemensamma / busstationen över floden hela dagen
A 20-letter word
The subtitle’s linesEndast mutationer i fortplantningsceller / kan nedärvas till barn
A time
The subtitle’s linesBlankåren släcktes så småningom / elden vid 23.35 på kvällen.

Should Swedish subtitles be word for word?

For your own video, usually yes: the generator writes what is said. Translated Swedish subtitles are condensed, though: Netflix’s Swedish guide requires a condensed style and asks for subtitles to be merged where one speaker runs on.

If a fast speaker makes a subtitle hard to read at 17 characters a second, cut a repeated phrase in the SRT or merge two short subtitles into one; the reading is easier and the timing still follows the speech.

How do Swedish subtitles show two speakers?

With a hyphen and no space at the start of each speaker’s line, “-När?” over “-Aldrig!”, in Netflix’s Swedish guide. The web generator doesn’t mark speakers, so add the hyphens yourself where a subtitle holds two voices.

Swedish viewers are used to reading: as across the Nordic countries, films and series for teenagers and adults are subtitled, and only children’s programmes are usually dubbed. The same guide writes one to ten in words, where our test kept digits, as in “19 av de skadade”.

Need Swedish subtitles with speaker names?

NoteOwl understands Swedish on your Mac: it transcribes Swedish recordings there with unlimited transcription, tells the voices apart and saves SRT subtitles with each speaker’s name, using on-device AI models. Need a Swedish transcript to read? Use Swedish audio to text.

FAQ

Swedish undertexter: questions

Is the Swedish subtitle generator free?

Yes. Make undertexter for 3 videos a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and no watermark; SRT, VTT and text downloads are all free.

Can it subtitle an English video in Swedish?

No. It writes down Swedish speech and doesn’t translate. Subtitle the English video in English first, then translate the text of each subtitle and keep the numbers and times untouched.

Can I shift a subtitle’s timing?

Yes. Each subtitle in the SRT has a timing line holding its start and end, written like 00:00:21,710; change those numbers in a text editor to start or end it earlier or later, keeping the format exactly as it is.

Which file does YouTube want?

YouTube accepts both SRT and VTT. Upload one as the video’s Swedish subtitles so viewers find them under that language in the player.

Does NoteOwl store my video?

No. The video is read in your browser and never leaves your device. Short pieces of its sound go securely to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes and discards each one, and the subtitles are assembled in the page.
