How it works
How do you translate English subtitles into Swedish?
Upload the SRT or VTT here; Swedish is already chosen as the language to translate into. Press Translate: the cue text goes off in batches and returns in Swedish, slotted back into the original timing. Look it over, then download.

English files are recognised automatically; for Norwegian, German or another source, choose it under From.

Cues are sent a few dozen at a time, so a sentence spread over two cues still reads as one.

An SRT, a VTT or a bilingual SRT, named with the code sv, such as Avsnitt 1.sv.srt.
Do Swedish subtitles fit the original cues?
Easily, in most files. In our test, Swedish translations came out about the same length as the English sentences. Each cue keeps its original time, and the Swedish is laid out again in two lines at most.
The line length aims for 42 characters and reading time for about 17 characters a second. Should a long Swedish cue look busy, it still never spills into a third line or an extra cue; cut a word instead.
Do Swedish subtitles use du or ni?
Du for one person, as Swedish normally does, and ni for a group: “Kan du skicka rapporten till mig innan fredag?” and “Tack alla för att ni kom idag.” Only a polite English “sir” had no Swedish match and stayed as “sir”.
How are prices, dates and times written in Swedish?
Partly the Swedish way. The decimal comma arrived (“6,5 procent”) and the date reads “den 16 oktober 2026 kl. 15:30”, but the price kept the English “$1,250”. Swedish usually puts a space between thousands, so change it to “1 250 dollar” if that matters.
Swedish writes clock times both ways: the Swedish test sentences used “6.30” in one place and “23:35” in another. Pick one style for the whole file.
- The price went up by 6.5 percent to $1,250.
- SwedishPriset steg med 6,5 procent till $1,250.
- The meeting is on October 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
- SwedishMötet är den 16 oktober 2026 kl. 15:30.
- Thank you all for coming today.
- SwedishTack alla för att ni kom idag.

Which English words stay in the Swedish?
A few that Swedish uses as they are, or that had no neat equivalent. “Wow!” stayed “Wow!”, “sir” stayed “sir”, and in a longer test the name “Obanazawa Post Office” was left in English. Decide whether your viewers want those kept or translated.
How good is translation into Swedish?
Very good in our test: translation from English into Swedish scored clearly above the dedicated translation system we compared it with. It writes the standard Swedish of Sweden, which viewers in Finland read too, though Finland Swedish has a few words of its own.
Recording interviews or lectures in Swedish?
NoteOwl understands Swedish on your Mac: it transcribes Swedish recordings with unlimited transcription, labels each speaker and saves SRT subtitles with their names. For subtitles straight from Swedish speech in a video, use the Swedish subtitle generator.
FAQ
Questions about Swedish subtitle translation
Is translating subtitles to Swedish free?
Yes. 3 subtitle files a day go into Swedish free, each with up to 30,000 characters of text. There is no account and no watermark.
Can I turn Danish or Norwegian subtitles into Swedish?
Yes. Set From to Danish or Norwegian and the subtitles go straight into Swedish. Read some of the Swedish before you publish it.
Will the Swedish cues keep their timing?
Yes. Every cue keeps its number and its start and end times exactly as in your file, so the Swedish plays in step with the video.
Can viewers see the original and the Swedish together?
Yes. Download the bilingual SRT: each cue shows the original line with the Swedish line beneath it, at the same time. Learners of Swedish find it handy.
Does the translator keep italics and speaker names?
Italics around a whole cue are kept, and a speaker label such as “Anna:” stays in front of the Swedish line, untranslated. Positions and styling from a VTT file are not carried over.
What happens to my subtitle file?
Your browser reads it. Only the cue text is sent, in batches, to a cloud AI translation service, which translates it and keeps nothing. NoteOwl stores neither file.
