How it works
How do you transcribe Hungarian audio?
Select the file. Because this page is set to Hungarian, there is nothing to choose: the sound is divided into short pieces at pauses, each piece is written in Hungarian, and the paragraphs arrive with their times.
- 1
Select a Hungarian recording
A voice memo, a phone call, a lecture or an interview, saved as audio or as a video.
- 2
It writes Hungarian
Suffixes, long vowels and all, for up to 30 minutes of each file.
- 3
Use the transcript
Copy it, or save it as Word, plain text or SRT and VTT subtitles.
Does it write ő and ű correctly?
Yes. ő and ű come back with the Hungarian double acute, not as ô, õ or û, and á, é, í, ó and ú carry their marks. The slips are in vowel length: hímből came back as himből and elhunyt as elhűnt.
A long vowel can change the meaning of a Hungarian word, so a careful read of short and long vowels is the most useful check you can make.
How does it handle Hungarian numbers and ordinals?
With digits and the Hungarian full stop for ordinals: tizenegyedik became “11.”, and a year keeps its suffix after a hyphen, as in “1889-ben”. Once, centuries said as numbers came back in Roman numerals.
- An ordinal
- Writtentizenegyedik helyen → 11. helyen
- A year with a suffix
- Written1889-ben, 1940-ben
- A small range
- Writtenegy-három → 1-3
- Thousands
- Written30.000, with a full stop
| Spoken | Written |
|---|---|
| An ordinal | tizenegyedik helyen → 11. helyen |
| A year with a suffix | 1889-ben, 1940-ben |
| A small range | egy-három → 1-3 |
| Thousands | 30.000, with a full stop |
How are foreign names written?
Often in their international spelling rather than the Hungarian one: Arisztotelész came back as Aristoteles and Hongkong as Hong Kong. Suffixes went on after a hyphen, as in Gibson-t, where Hungarian rules attach them directly.
Unfamiliar names are spelled by sound, and one place name came back as a different word altogether, so check every proper noun against the audio.
Why is the converter set to Hungarian?
Hungarian sounds unlike its neighbours’ languages, but a short or noisy piece can still be misread when the language is guessed. Set to Hungarian, the whole Hungarian transcript stays in one language, from the first suffix to the last.
This works the same for speakers in Hungary and in the Hungarian communities of Romania, Slovakia or Serbia. For a recording that alternates Hungarian with long English stretches, the main converter detects each piece’s language.
Is there a Hungarian version for the Mac?
NoteOwl understands Hungarian on your Mac. It transcribes Hungarian recordings and meetings there with unlimited transcription, labels the speakers and keeps every conversation searchable, all without uploading. Its free dictation types Hungarian into any app.
FAQ
Questions about Hungarian audio to text
Is Hungarian audio to text free here?
Yes. 3 Hungarian files a day, each up to 30 minutes, with no account and every format to download.
Does the transcript have punctuation?
Full stops and commas, yes. Quotation marks („…”) and brackets are dropped, so a quoted sentence reads as ordinary text until you add them back.
Is my Hungarian recording stored?
No. Short parts of the sound go over a secure connection to a cloud AI transcription service, which transcribes each part and then deletes it. NoteOwl keeps no copy of the recording or of the text.
Can it read the sound of a video?
Yes. Drop an MP4 or MOV, such as a downloaded online meeting or a phone video, and it transcribes the sound track.
Can I turn the transcript into subtitles?
Yes. The SRT and VTT downloads give each line a start and end time, keeping ő, ű and the other accents, ready for a video editor.
What should I check before I share it?
Vowel length, names and figures. Those were where the slips were: a short vowel for a long one, a foreign spelling for a Hungarian name, and now and then a Roman numeral for a century.
