Romanian audio to text
This free converter turns Romanian audio to text with the language already set to Romanian, so the transcript comes back with ă, â, î, ș and ț in place and a time beside every paragraph.

How it works
How do you transcribe Romanian audio?
Drop a Romanian recording on the converter. Your browser reads it, cuts it where the speaker pauses and sends each short piece to be written as Romanian; the paragraphs appear with their times, ready to copy or save.
- 1
Add the file
An interview, a lecture, a podcast or a WhatsApp voice note saved from your phone, as audio or video.
- 2
Romanian, piece by piece
Nothing is left to detection: every piece is written in Romanian, for up to 30 minutes of the recording.
- 3
Keep the text
Copy it into a document, or download Word, plain text or SRT and VTT subtitles.
Does the transcript use proper Romanian diacritics?
Yes. Words come back with ă, â and î, and ș and ț are written with the comma below, the correct Romanian letters, not the cedilla look-alikes left over from old fonts. Text pasted into Word or a website stays searchable and correctly spelled.
Skim for one thing: now and then a whole sentence came back without any diacritics, as in “China Antica … detinea … distincta”. It stands out at a glance and takes a minute to fix.
How are Romanian numbers written?
As digits wherever a number is said: “a zecea” came back as “a 10-a”, “unu până la trei” as “1 până la 3” and “treizeci” as “30”. Roman numerals for centuries, such as XI and XII, stayed as Roman numerals.

Why set the converter to Romanian?
Because a short or muffled piece of Romanian can be mistaken for another Romance language when the language is guessed. With Romanian fixed, the transcript keeps one language and one alphabet from start to finish.
English names said in a Romanian sentence kept their English spelling, as in John F. Kennedy, NextGen and FAA. A recording that changes language for whole minutes is better on the main converter, which detects each piece’s language.
What should you check before using a Romanian transcript?
Names, years and quotations. Unfamiliar names were written by sound, so Brzezinski became Bleszinski and Bishkek became Biscac. One year, 1800, came back as 800. And „…” quotation marks and brackets are left out, so add them where a quote matters.
Is there a Romanian option for your Mac?
Yes. NoteOwl understands Romanian on your Mac: it transcribes Romanian recordings and meetings there with unlimited transcription, separates the speakers and keeps every conversation searchable, with nothing uploaded. Its dictation is free and types Romanian, diacritics included, into any app.
FAQ
Romanian audio to text: common questions
Is it free to transcribe Romanian audio here?
Yes, with no account: up to 3 recordings a day, and up to 30 minutes of each one. Every download is part of it.
Does it work for Romanian from Moldova?
Romanian is the official language of both Romania and Moldova, and the converter writes it in the same Latin alphabet with the same diacritics whichever side of the Prut the speaker is from. Read regional words and names back against the audio.
What happens to my Romanian recording?
Your browser cuts it into short pieces and sends them, over a secure connection, to a cloud AI transcription service that transcribes each piece and discards it. NoteOwl stores no sound and no text; the transcript lives only in the open page.
Can I get Romanian subtitles?
Yes. Choose SRT or VTT and each line carries its start and end time, with the diacritics intact, so a video editor or YouTube can show them as captions.
Why are some words without diacritics?
Occasionally a single sentence comes back without them while the rest of the transcript has them. Such a sentence stands out when you skim, with words like “daca” and “ca” missing their marks; correct it in one go.
What if the recording runs past 30 minutes?
The converter writes the first 30 minutes and tells you where it stopped. Cut the rest into a second file with an audio editor and transcribe that too.
