How it works

How do you translate a Catalan recording into Spanish?

To translate Catalan audio to Spanish, drop the recording here. The page listens for Catalan only, writes each short piece down with its accents and l·l, then translates the lines in batches. Each Spanish line keeps its time, and Original shows the Catalan.

  1. 1

    Drop the Catalan recording

A council session, a class at the university, a podcast or a voice note.

  2. 2

    Catalan first, then Spanish

Transcribed in Catalan and translated into Spanish, up to 30 minutes a recording.

  3. 3

    Take the Spanish

Copy it, or download TXT or Word; the Catalan is saved separately.

Does “va + infinitive” come out as past or future?

As the past, which is what it means in Catalan. “Va cobrir” and “va colpejar” look like the Spanish future “va a cubrir”, but they mean “covered” and “struck”; our test lines came back correctly as “cubrió” and “golpeó”.

Which Catalan words need a second look in Spanish?

“Perquè” is the one to watch: it means both “because” and “so that”, while Spanish needs two words, “porque” and “para que”. When a line explains why or what for, check which one the speaker meant.

Close words can also be carried over too literally: “va sobrecarregar les relacions” became “sobrecargó las relaciones”, understandable but not how a Spanish writer would put it.

How well is Catalan speech written down first?

Very well: Catalan was among the most accurate languages in our transcription test, with à, è, ç, ï and the punt volat (sol·licituds) in place. Names were the slips, such as “Adenbrook” for Addenbrooke, and a Balearic word, tomàtiga, was kept just as it was said.

How natural is the Spanish from Catalan?

Natural, in ten test sentences with a professional Spanish version beside them: “del matí” became “de la mañana”, and the Spanish ran about as long as the Catalan. Two lines:

Actualment, Fred presenta vents de 105 milles per hora (165 km/h) i es mou en direcció nord-oest.
SpanishActualmente, Fred presenta vientos de 105 millas por hora (165 km/h) y se mueve en dirección noroeste.

FAQ

Questions about translating Catalan audio into Spanish

Is the Catalan to Spanish audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes, without an account. The Spanish, the Catalan transcript and all the downloads come with it.

Does it work for Valencian?

Yes. Valencian is the name Catalan goes by in the Valencian Community, so this is the page to use. The transcript keeps regional words as they were said, as it did with the Balearic tomàtiga in our test.

What about a meeting in both Catalan and Spanish?

This page writes every part down as Catalan. For a meeting where people switch between the two, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Can I save the Spanish as Word?

Yes. The Word file shows the recording’s length and “Translated: Catalan → Spanish”, then the Spanish paragraphs, with or without their times.

Does it say who is speaking?

No. The Spanish transcript has words and times but no speaker names.

Does NoteOwl keep the recording?

No. Short pieces of the sound go to a cloud AI transcription service and the Catalan text to a cloud AI translation service, each of which discards it. NoteOwl stores no audio or text.
