How it works

How do you translate a Mandarin recording into Spanish?

To translate Chinese audio to Spanish, drop the recording here. The page listens for Mandarin, writes each short piece in Chinese characters, then translates the transcript into Spanish a batch of lines at a time. Every Spanish line keeps its time; Original shows the Chinese.

  1. 1

    Add the Mandarin recording

A factory call, a WeChat voice message saved as a file, a lecture or an interview.

  2. 2

    Characters first, then Spanish

The speech is written in Chinese, then translated. Up to 30 minutes a recording.

  3. 3

    Read the Spanish

Copy it or save it as TXT or Word; the Chinese transcript is under Original.

Why might “he” and “she” get mixed up?

Because Mandarin says “tā” for he, she and it alike; only the character, 他, 她 or 它, tells them apart, and the transcript picks one. Our transcription test wrote 他 (he) for an animal and 它 (it) for a person. Spanish needs él or ella: check who is meant.

Does the Chinese transcript have punctuation?

Often very little. In our Mandarin transcription test, 35 of 40 pieces came back with no punctuation at all, so the translation has to find where each sentence ends by itself. Batches of lines help: each line is translated with its neighbours in view.

Sound-alike characters are the other slip to know about: the transcript wrote 改正 (to correct) where the speaker said 该镇 (this town). The Spanish is made from the characters, so a wrong one is translated as written.

How do names written in characters come back?

By sound and context, and now and then wrongly. In our test 小皮奎特, Piquet Jr. in characters with 小 meaning “little”, came back as “Petit”. Others were recovered well: 圣路易市 and 密苏里州 became the Spanish “San Luis, Misuri”, and 六旗 “Six Flags”.

How long is the Spanish compared with the Chinese?

Several times longer in characters: in our ten test sentences, the Spanish had about three and a half times as many characters as the Chinese. A transcript that fits on one screen in Chinese can run to a few pages in Spanish.

How natural is the Spanish from Chinese?

Natural, in ten test sentences with a professional Spanish version beside them. Context words were read well: 这位巴西选手 (this Brazilian competitor) became “Este piloto brasileño”. Two lines:

鱼类经常由于水中毒素浓度极高而死亡。
SpanishLos peces mueren con frecuencia debido a las concentraciones extremadamente altas de toxinas en el agua.
这次袭击事件给印巴关系造成了巨大压力。
SpanishEste ataque ejerció una enorme presión sobre las relaciones entre India y Pakistán.

FAQ

Questions about translating Chinese audio into Spanish

Is the Chinese to Spanish audio translator free?

Yes. 3 recordings a day, each up to 30 minutes long, with no sign-up. The Spanish, the Chinese transcript and every download are part of it.

Can I compare the Chinese and the Spanish line by line?

Yes. The result opens on the Spanish; Original shows the Chinese characters with exactly the same times, so any Spanish line can be matched to the words it came from.

Will the Chinese transcript be in simplified or traditional characters?

Simplified, in our Mandarin transcription test: every character came back in its simplified form. The Spanish is translated from that transcript.

What if the speakers switch to Spanish?

This page writes every part down as Chinese. For a recording in both languages, use the main audio translator with the spoken language on Detect automatically.

Does it label who is speaking?

No. The Spanish transcript has words and times without speaker names. NoteOwl on a Mac labels each speaker.

Is my recording kept anywhere?

No. Short pieces of the sound go from your browser to a cloud AI transcription service and the Chinese text to a cloud AI translation service; both discard it, and NoteOwl stores nothing.
